Common use of Employees Hired After January 1, 1990 Clause in Contracts

Employees Hired After January 1, 1990. All full-time unit employees shall be eligible to accumulate sick leave hours at the rate of 3.0 hours per pay period for each completed eighty (80) hours of paid service (pro-rated for pay periods with less than eighty (80) hours of paid service). Any sick leave hours accumulated in excess of five hundred (500) hours shall be compensated for to the employee at their current rate of pay. Such compensation shall be made on the first pay day in December. Any employee who retires and is immediately eligible for retirement benefits as defined by the Municipal Employees' Retirement System shall be paid for only fifty percent (50%) of their accumulated sick leave hours. In the event of the death of a full-time, non-probationary employee, the designated beneficiary shall receive fifty percent (50%) of their unused sick leave hours in a lump sum payment. The amount for each such hour being paid for will be based upon the employee’s most recent rate, or an average of their most recent five (5) year pay rate, whichever is higher.
