Reserve Characteristics are adjusted by the Availability of the Providing Unit in the following manner in order to determine reserve values for a given Output for different Availability values. The example in Chart 1 above uses a 160 MW generating unit. Line 1 (green) indicates the reserve available for a given Output when the machine has Availability of 160 MW. Line2 (red) indicates the reserve available for a given Output when the machine has Availability of 120 MW If the generating unit Availability is reduced the original curve moves to reflect the reduction in Availability on the X axis towards zero.
