Common use of Extended Medical Leave of Absence Clause in Contracts

Extended Medical Leave of Absence. 1. An employee may be granted a leave of absence, without pay, due to personal illness. An employee who is ill for a length of time greater than his/her accumulated sick leave and who does not qualify or has exhausted his/her family medical leave (FMLA) must apply for an extended leave of absence within thirty (30) days from his/her last paid sick day or the exhaustion of FMLA benefits.

Extended Medical Leave of Absence. 1. An employee may be granted a leave of absence, without pay, due to personal illness. An employee who is ill for a length of time greater than his/her accumulated sick leave and who does not qualify or has exhausted his/her family medical leave (FMLA) must apply for rights under the Family and Medical Leave provisions of this contract shall be allowed to take an extended medical leave of absence within thirty (30) days from for his/her last serious health condition not to exceed one (1) year from the first date of absence including any time covered as FML. The Employer shall continue health insurance for an employee on medical leave of absence until the end of the month following six (6) months of leave whether paid sick day or the exhaustion of FMLA benefitsunpaid.
