Common use of High School Clause in Contracts

High School. A. A study guide, when commercially available, and a desk set, where appropriate, for each intensively studied text shall be provided each teacher for the courses he/she teaches. B. A teacher in a school which is operating on more than one shift shall have his/her periods of duty consecutively scheduled, and for a length of time equal to the normal teacher day. C. Cafeteria duty in all high schools shall be voluntary. Mandatory bus duty shall not be required. D. Career centers shall be considered part of the organizational structure of the schools where located. Departments shall be formed under guidelines of Article XXIX unless the career area is already departmentalized at the school. (Medical Office Management would be part of the Business Technology Department already established, etc.) E. In order that proper control may be maintained over storage and inventory of science supplies, especially chemicals, one (1) chemistry teacher in each high school shall be scheduled for one (1) additional planning period each week, or at the option of the Board one (1) additional hour at the negotiated hourly rate may be paid in lieu of the planning time. F. In the absence of volunteers, assignment of senior high schools teachers within a department to teach in more than two (2) classrooms shall be rotated by department seniority beginning with the least senior teacher in terms of department seniority. G. Middle school teachers shall not be scheduled bus duty beyond their regular duty day. H. Middle School study skills teachers shall continue to accrue departmental seniority in the department in which they last taught before assuming the study skills assignment. I. When a teacher transfers, three (3) days’ notice shall be given when possible. Two full days without students shall be allowed. These days may be taken either at the receiving school or at the school from which the teacher is transferred at the option of the teacher. One (1) full day without students shall be allowed for movement within a school when a teaching assignment changes. If requested three (3) days in advance the Board shall move materials and equipment to the new site.

There will be scheduled for no more than one (1) additional planning prep per class period each weekfor core academic courses unless the teacher otherwise agrees. The maximum number of preps per day for core academic teachers (with the exception of Foreign Language teachers) will not exceed three (3), or at unless the option teacher, with the approval of the Board Department Chair, initiates a request for additional preps. v. Duty periods may include study hall supervision, hall/rest room supervision, lunch supervision, and academic assistance. Where appropriate, educational aides may be utilized in lieu of teachers to non-instructional duty supervision, taking into consideration the need to maintain student discipline. vi. Teaching assignments or duties which fall outside of the normal student day (i.e., “Early Bird,” detention monitor, etc.) shall be done on a voluntary basis. Those bargaining unit members who have volunteered shall be permitted to appropriately flex their starting or ending times. vii. High school staff meetings shall occur during collaboration time and shall occur no more than one (1) additional hour at time each month except in emergency situations. Professional development activities will be cooperatively developed by the negotiated hourly rate staff and the building administration. Teachers may be paid in lieu of the planning time. F.
