Elementary Schools. Each teacher of grade Pre-K-5 and the specialists who serve those students will be given at least 225 minutes of preparation time within the student day each 5-day student week. Each day of the week, each teacher will have at least forty (40) continuous minutes each day for preparation time.
Elementary Schools. 1) The teacher's workday shall be six (6) hours and forty-five (45) minutes exclusive of the lunch period.
2) Each teacher shall be provided a duty free lunch period equal in length to the lunch period of students. However, in order to ensure the proper supervision and safety of students it is understood that each teacher will remain at his/her place of assignment until it is cleared and shall be back at his/her place of assignment when the admittance xxxx rings, or five minutes before the tardy xxxx, whichever is shorter.
3) Each teacher shall be in his/her building prior to the start of his/her assignment and, in order to ensure the proper supervision and safety of students, shall be at his/her place of assignment when the admittance xxxx rings. Each teacher shall remain in his/her building after the completion of his/her assignment.
4) Each teacher shall have a minimum of forty (40) minutes daily planning time during the student’s school day and a minimum of twenty (20) minutes of unassigned time. If an elementary teacher’s class is attending a special class, s/he shall be deemed to be having planning time. Planning time is a part of the regular in-school responsibility of teachers, and shall be utilized in lesson preparation, counseling students, conferring with parents and/or other school personnel, assessing student performance, and other professional responsibilities consistent with the principles and requirements set forth in Appendix E of this Agreement, including Individual Educational Planning (IEP) meetings, student staffing, and Section 504 staffing. Unassigned time is defined as teacher arrival to admittance xxxx, recess, and student’s dismissal to the end of the teacher workday.
5) The teacher’s instructional time shall be three hundred, forth six (346) minutes for each day for a five day week.
6) No elementary teacher shall be required to stand recess duty.
7) If an elementary teacher’s class in attending a special instruction class, such teachers shall be on planning time.
a. Each elementary teacher shall have the primary responsibility for the educational program of his/her class. Elementary teachers and teacher specialists will cooperatively plan for the teaching and utilization of necessary skills and activities to be taught.

Elementary Schools. After the first incident each semester of receiving students from a divided class, basic classroom or resource teachers who receive students from another class that has been divided shall receive $12 per day or $6 for one- half day coverage. Such amount shall be prorated for the portion of the day actually covered but in no case shall students be divided between more than four teachers for the purpose of this compensation.
Elementary Schools. A. Each classroom shall have one text per child when the subject is being taught. Future textbook adoptions will include appropriate supplementary materials when those materials are recommended by the adoption committee. Any consumables or supplementary materials adopted shall be distributed according to the committee’s recommendation prior to implementing the adoption. When adopted, consumables, such as workbooks, will be distributed to each child before required usage of the materials. The joint Curriculum Committee shall be consulted prior to the discontinuance of such materials. (See Article XXVI). Newly employed teachers and all teachers who transfer to a new teaching assignment will be provided appropriate desk top supplies and Board adopted curriculum materials. If a teacher is transferring into a newly created classroom, appropriate furniture will be provided. The parties have agreed to an inventory (reference Appendix Z) of supplies, materials, and furniture. A teacher who is not provided the core inventory by September 1 or within thirty (30) days of assignment shall be entitled to appeal directly through the Federation to the appropriate Transformational Leader or his/her designee.
B. Each child found to be without adequate health care, where immediate medical attention is needed, shall be referred by the Board to the appropriate social agency upon notification by the teacher. The teacher shall receive written confirmation of the referral within ten (10) school days.
C. No teacher shall be required to supervise or be present in the dining area during a local, state or federal breakfast or lunch program. Such instructional time used for said programs shall be considered planning time for the teacher, at a place of his/her choice, within the building.
D. No elementary teacher shall be assigned to teach in an area outside his/her certification, subject to Article IV, G- 4.
E. Cafeteria duty shall be voluntary when service is performed by a teacher.
F. No bus or other additional duties shall be assigned to an elementary teacher outside the six hour and fifteen minute duty day.
G. Elementary teachers shall not be required to be present when other teachers are responsible for presenting materials to the class. If a demonstration lesson is requested by the teacher, he/she will be required to be present. Such requests shall be initiated by the teacher.

Elementary Schools a. Elementary Leaders
1.) There shall be a collaborative effort between administration and certified staff at each school site to establish up to twelve (12) positions to address both current and innovative curricular and managerial needs.
2.) Determination of positions, job descriptions, and differential amounts shall be through schoolwide consensus of all certified teaching staff.
3.) All positions shall be evaluated by the teaching staff annually at the end of the school year through a method agreed upon by the teaching staff, and, if needed, positions may be redesigned and/or redefined, and/or differential amounts may be reallocated.
4.) The sum of $8,085.00 will be allocated to each elementary school site to be used as payment for differentials.
5.) Elected Elementary Team Leaders must have a minimum of a Level II license. To elect a teacher leader with a Level 1 license, the department/school must follow the contract waiver procedure described in APPENDIX L (page 133) of the negotiated agreement.
6.) Election/Selection procedure for Elementary School Teacher Leadership Positions
a.) Elementary Leaders must be members of the certified teaching staff.
(1.) Elementary Leaders shall be elected by all certified members of the teaching staff annually in a secret ballot election.
(2.) Each certified member of the teaching staff shall receive a list of the positions, job descriptions and differential list before the election is held and shall have the opportunity to be nominated or to volunteer for the ballot.
(3.) Results of the election shall be reported to the Department of Human Resources no later than October 1 of each school year.
Elementary Schools. Teachers shall have at least one (1) thirty (30) minute unassigned period per day, except that a teacher may agree to a schedule which contains five (5) unassigned periods per week over four (4) days.
Elementary Schools. Sixty (60) minutes per day in two (2) blocks of time no less than 15 minutes per block. Buildings and sites where an alternative scheduling model has been approved by Education Minnesota – OSSEO and the District will be considered to be in compliance with this subdivision.
Elementary Schools. Unit members participating in the District's Outdoor Education Program shall receive a stipend of .0085 of Step 1A.
Elementary Schools. Administrative Secretary – 10 days before the start of school and 5 days after school ends. This position will be scheduled for a minimum of 200 days per year.
Elementary Schools. At an elementary site, within a grade level, when all classes have reached the maximum for five consecutive days in September and October, the district will create a new section provided space is available. If no space is available and/or from November on, how to best distribute the staff shall be decided mutually between the teacher(s) and the administrator(s) and submitted to the district and association for review. The staffing goal for student/teacher ratio shall be established at 24:1 in each of the elementary schools of the District. In determining the student/teacher ratio, the following teachers and specialists will be excluded: K-5 elementary physical education specialists, K-5 music specialists, Counselors/Social Workers, and K-5 Teacher Librarians.
