Horizontal Movement. 1. Course credit for salary schedule movement shall be given for upper division postgraduate, or graduate coursework taken at accredited four-year colleges, universities or graduate schools except as herein provided. a. Lower division course credit from such colleges may be used up to a maximum of twelve (12) units provided: (1) the course material is pertinent to the employee's current or prospective assignment; (2) the course material was not available in upper division or graduate work; and (3) written approval from the Assistant Superintendent - Human Resources was obtained. b. An employee may use courses offered by other institutions (e.g. the District, Community Colleges, etc.) where the courses are necessary to satisfy special program requirements (e.g. bilingual) or where it can be demonstrated that they are more beneficial than those available though the institutions noted above. c. Courses taken through the District shall be given credit for salary schedule movement on the basis of one (1) semester unit for every fifteen (15), or major fraction thereof, clock hours of participation. d. An employee may use more than twelve (12) units of lower division course credit for salary schedule movement when the courses are necessary to satisfy special program requirements (e.g. bilingual). e. An employee may use lower division post graduate work taken prior to his/her employment by the District for salary schedule movement up to the limit noted above provided that he/she can show that approval requirements similar to those in Paragraph A, above, were met at the time the courses were taken. 2. Semester hours (units) as defined by the particular accredited college, university, or graduate school will be acceptable for placement on the salary schedule. Quarter hours (units) shall be converted to semester hours (units) by multiplying the total of such hours (units) by two-thirds. 3. Employees requesting a column change must file such request in person with the District Human Resources Office on the appropriate form. Verification must be attached to the request form. Verification must be by means of official transcripts, student copies of transcripts with the registrar's signature, or unaltered official grade reports/credit certificates. Completed requests received by the ninth of the month shall be effective the first of that month. Requests received after the ninth of the month shall be effective the first of next month. Employees 16.5.2 Unit members requesting a column change reclassification from one class to another must file such request in person requests with the District Human Resources Office on the appropriate formDepartment no later than April 15th of each year. Verification Supporting records or transcripts verifying post-graduate units of study that are to apply to such a reclassification must be attached filed with the Human Resources Department no later than September 30th of the ensuing school year, for courses completed by September 30th of the school year. If by September 30th the unit member is unable to submit supporting records or transcripts verifying post- graduate units of study that are to apply toward reclassification, official notices in the form of a grade card or letter from the college or institution shall be submitted. Such temporary verifications which indicate satisfactory completion of the course(s) shall be sufficient evidence to meet the above requirements. The unit member shall provide the official transcript or affidavit document to the request form. Verification must be by means of official transcriptsDistrict as soon as it is available, student copies of transcripts with the registrar's signature, or unaltered official grade reports/credit certificates. Any error in classification shall be corrected as soon as the error is verified. 516.5.4 Audit courses will not be accepted as training credits valid for salary schedule placement or reclassification. The conferral date Credit will not be accepted for course work taken in the armed service, except as it was taken in conjunction with an accredited college or university and can be verified through official transcripts. Course work taken through a foreign university or other institution which sponsors travel tours for credits assigned upper division or graduate status, assigned a course title, and given unit value, shall be accepted. Such foreign university or other institution must be listed in the current edition of any degree necessary accredited institutions of higher learning, specified above. 16.5.5 If a unit member believes that participation in a lower division course will be of direct benefit to the District and that a similar benefit is not available at an upper division or graduate course level, such unit member may petition the District for a column change shall waiver. Such waiver, if granted, would allow the units so approved to be prior counted for advancement on the salary schedule. Prior to the date of enrollment in lower division courses, the first pay warrant reflecting the change. It, however, may be subsequent unit member must make formal application to the deadline for submitting District and receive approval in the column change request formform of the aforementioned waiver. 6. Courses which are audited are not acceptable 16.5.6 If a student from a teacher training institution is assigned to a unit member for salary schedule advancementtraining purposes and the District receives a stipend for this service from the institution, then the unit member to whom the student teacher is assigned shall receive the stipend.

Horizontal Movement. 1. Course credit A. A written statement of intent to complete units for horizontal movement on the salary schedule movement shall be given filed in the District Office by May 1 preceding the school year of horizontal group change. The statement shall contain the course description. The Assistant Superintendent for upper division postgraduate, Human Resources shall review all written statements of intent. E. Teachers assigned to teach vocational subjects requiring work employment experience for vocational credentials shall be granted credits for horizontal salary schedule movement on the basis of one hundred (1100) semester hours of full-time work for each unit for every of credit up to a maximum of fifteen (15), or major fraction thereof, clock hours of participation) credits. d. An employee may use more than twelve (12) units of lower division course credit for salary schedule movement when the courses are necessary to satisfy special program requirements (e.g. bilingual). e. An employee may use lower division post graduate work taken prior to his/her employment by the District for salary schedule movement up to the limit noted above provided that he/she can show that approval requirements similar to those in Paragraph A, above, were met at the time the courses were taken. 2.
