LEAVE FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE. a. When a teacher is nominated as a candidate and wishes to contest a provincial or federal election, he or she may be given leave of absence, without pay, during the election campaign. Should the teacher be elected as a Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislative Assembly, he/she shall be granted a long-term leave of absence. Such requests shall not unreasonably be denied. b. Teachers elected or appointed to municipal or regional district offices or public boards or public school boards shall be granted leave of absence, at the cost of a teacher-teaching-on-call, up to a maximum of five (5) days in any one school year. If elected as a Mayor, or Chairperson of a Regional District Board or Public School Boards, the teacher may be granted up to 20 additional days at the cost of a teacher-teaching-on-call. Further days of leave without pay may be granted at the Board‘s discretion. Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. c. Teachers involved in a community service may be granted, leave of absence with pay up to a maximum of three (3) days in any one school year. Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied.
