Common use of Leave for Full-Time Union Officials Clause in Contracts

Leave for Full-Time Union Officials. (a) An employee who is elected or appointed to a full-time position with the Canadian Union of Public Employees shall be entitled to leave without pay and with retention of seniority accumulation up to the date of commencing leave. Such leave shall be for a period of one (1) year or less if so requested. This leave may be renewed for up to a maximum of two (2) years. (b) Upon return to work from a leave up to one (1) year, if the employee has the necessary seniority they shall be returned to their former position. (c) Upon return to work from a leave in excess of one (1) year, the Board may place the employee in any position for which the employee is qualified and has the necessary seniority, provided that a full-time employee shall have the right to return to a full-time position.
