Leave Pay and Leave of Absence. A. Since the absence of an employee generally has an adverse effect on the quality of the educational program, imposes increased responsibilities on other members of the professional staff, and increases costs, it is the responsibility of each employee to avoid unnecessary tardiness or absence. The provisions hereinafter set forth are not intended to reduce the professional responsibilities of an employee or to provide a form of additional compensation. Rather, they are included to meet the humanitarian and legitimate needs of the employees in a manner consistent with the requirements of the educational program, and they shall be so applied and interpreted.
