Negative Outcomes. Children of parents with physical disability experience significant exposure to daily stressors earlier in their life than their peers (Xxxxx et al., 2016). This can put them more at risk for experiencing mental health problems in their future including anxiety and coping difficulties (Xxxxx et al., 2016). Stressors that these children can experience include increased responsibility and maturity necessary within the home, separation from their parent due to hospitalizations, and watching their parent experience negative symptoms associated with their condition (Xxxxxxxx et al., 2017; Xxxxx et al., 2016). Despite the many stressors these children face, some children may experience positive outcomes because of their parents having a physical disability.
