Orientation/Inservice/Professional Development. (a) An orientation and in-service program will be provided to all Nurses; these programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Association - Management Committee. (b) A newly employed Nurse shall not be placed in charge, until she/he has been fully oriented to the Manor. (c) The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation of a newly- hired Nurse: i) She/he is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the Manor, and the daily routine of Nurses in the Manor on all three (3) shifts. ii) The period of orientation shall be for a minimum of four (4) days. The Manor will not unreasonably deny requests for additional orientation. iii) She/he shall be scheduled as an additional Nurse to the usual staffing pattern. iv) The Nurse or Nurses involved in the orientation will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly-hired Nurse’s personnel file, which will be reviewed with such Nurse, and the Nurse shall also be able to comment. (d) Both the Manor and the Association recognize their joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Association supports the principle of its members' responsibility for their own professional development and the Manor will endeavour to provide programs related to the requirements of the Manor. The Manor will endeavour where practical to schedule in-services at times which will facilitate the attendance of nurses working outside the day shift.

(b) . A newly employed Nurse employee shall not be placed in charge, until she/he she has been fully oriented to the Manor.
(c) home. The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation of a newly- newly-hired Nurseemployee:
i) She/he She is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the Manoremployer, and the daily routine of Nurses employees in the Manor Home on all three (3) shifts, one of which shall be scheduled on the weekend nights, if possible.
ii) The period of orientation shall be for a minimum of four seven (47) days. The Manor Employer will not unreasonably deny requests for additional orientation.
iii) She/he She shall be scheduled as an additional Nurse employee to the usual staffing pattern.
iv) The Nurse employee or Nurses employees involved in the orientation will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly-hired Nurseemployee’s personnel personal file, which will be reviewed with such Nurseemployee, and the Nurse employee shall also be able to comment.
(db) Both the Manor Employer and the Association Union recognize their the joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Association Union supports the principle of its members' ’ responsibility for their own professional development and the Manor Employer will endeavour to provide programs programmes related to the requirements Ministry of Health Long Term Care inservice requirements. Available programmes will be publicized.
(c) Where computers are introduced into the workplace and nurses are required to utilize those computers in the course of their duties, the Home agrees that necessary computer training will be provided at no cost to the nurses involved.
20.02 The in service education programme shall be based on the following principles:
(a) All in service programmes shall be scheduled in a manner which will allow all employees to attend during working hours. Employees required to attend such programmes outside their working hours shall be paid at their regular rate of pay.
(b) The Employer agrees that if for any reason, changes in the operating and technical methods and practices of providing nursing care, require additional knowledge or skill on the part of the Manor. The Manor employees, such employees will endeavour where practical be given the opportunity to schedule in-services at times which will facilitate study and practice to acquire any knowledge or skill necessary to carry out these responsibilities.
20.03 Employees who are required to take on a new work assignment may be provided any orientation determined necessary by the attendance Home for the purposes of nurses working outside allowing the day shiftemployee to assume satisfactorily the duties of the position.
