Common use of Orientation/Inservice/Professional Development Clause in Contracts

Orientation/Inservice/Professional Development. An orientation and in-service program will be provided to all employees. These programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Association/Management Committee. Before assigning a newly hired nurse in charge of a unit, the employer will first provide orientation both to the facility and to the unit. It is understood that such nurse shall be assigned to any tour as part of the nurse’s orientation program, providing such assignment is in accordance with any scheduling regulations contained in the collective agreement. The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation of newly-hired employees: (a) she is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the employer, and the daily routine of employees in the Home on all three (3) shifts. (b) The period of orientation shall be a minimum of four (4) days. The Employer will not reasonably deny requests for additional orientation. (c) She shall be scheduled as an additional employee to the usual staffing pattern.
