Outside Professional Activities. 21.01 Outside professional activities may enhance the reputation of the University and the professional, scholarly and scientific competence of the ASM. ASMs are encouraged to involve themselves with the community outside the University in applying their professional skills and knowledge. This Article applies only to outside professional activities that involve the application of special skills and knowledge within the ASM's particular academic competence. An ASM may engage in such activities subject to the following conditions:
(a) Such activities shall not hinder the fulfillment of the ASM’s obligations to the University, including scholarly work, and the undertaking of a fair share of academic administration.
(b) Outside professional activities shall not require the commitment of a block of time which might interfere with the ASM’s normal timetable for teaching activities.
21.02 An ASM shall, upon written request, make available to his or her Administrative Head information on the nature and scope of paid outside professional activities.
21.03 When outside professional activities would involve the use of University supplies, facilities, employees, or services, such use shall be subject to the prior written approval of the Administrative Head. The request for approval shall include information on the nature and scope of the outside professional activities for which support is requested. If approval is granted, the charges for such equipment, supplies, facilities, employees or services shall be at the prevailing rates unless the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ & Vice-President (Academic) agrees, in writing, to waive all or part of the charges. When engaging in outside professional activities, the ASM shall ensure that he or she does not represent himself or herself as acting on behalf of the University. The University will assume no liability for any action brought against an ASM as a result of outside professional activities.
21.04 The name of the University shall not be used in any outside professional activity unless agreed, in writing, by the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ & Vice-President (Academic), although nothing shall prevent the ASM from stating the nature and place of his or her employment, rank and title, in connection with outside professional activities, provided that he or she shall not purport to represent the University or speak for it, or to have its approval unless that approval has been given in writing.

Outside Professional Activities. 26.01 Employees receive appointments at the University based on their expertise and competence in their respective professional fields. Outside professional activities may enhance the professional and scholarly competence of the Employee as well as the reputation of the University.
26.02 Employees may engage in professional activity with the community outside the University, provided that such activity does not conflict or interfere with the Employee’s duties or responsibilities to the Employer. The Employee shall not represent himself or herself as acting on behalf of the University. However, nothing shall prevent the Employee from stating the nature and place of his/her employment at the University.
26.03 Should outside professional activities involve the use of University employees, facilities, supplies, or services, such use shall be subject to the prior written approval of ▇▇▇▇ or their designate and shall be at the prevailing rates unless the ▇▇▇▇ or their designate agrees in writing to waive all or part of the charges.
Outside Professional Activities. The President/Superintendent may undertake outside professional activities, including consulting, speaking, and writing provided these activities do not interfere with the President/Superintendent’s duties.
Outside Professional Activities. The Superintendent may undertake consultative work, speaking engagements, writing, lecturing, or other professional duties and obligations, provided such activities do not in any manner interfere or conflict with the performance of the duties and responsibilities as Superintendent.
Outside Professional Activities. (a) For the purpose of this article, "outside professional activities" means participation in the activities of professional associations, learned societies, faculty associations, or voluntary practice of the employee’s profession, which support and/or promote the advancement of research, scholarship, teaching, artistic creation, or professional development, and improve the working conditions of academic staff.
(b) Employees have the right to participate in outside professional activities in accordance with Article 8.4.12.
(c) Participation in outside professional activities is deemed to represent contributions to the profession and/or the community for purposes of any evaluation carried out under this Collective Agreement.
(d) The Employer agrees to support an Employee's participation in professional associations and/or learned societies where possible.
(e) When engaging in outside professional activities, Employees shall not claim to speak on behalf of the Employer unless specifically authorized to do so.
(f) Employees may state the nature and place of their employment, rank and title(s) in connection with outside professional activities and to use their university address as a mailing address so long as they do not purport to represent the Employer or to speak on the Employer's behalf.
Outside Professional Activities. 30.1 The employer recognizes that participation by a faculty member in outside professional activities beyond the university (in areas such as government, industry, business, and the profession) is desirable when such participation contributes to the member’s professional and scholarly development.
30.2 For the purposes of this article, ―outside professional activities‖ are defined as:
30.2.1 Paid employment in any capacity by another employer, including carrying out teaching duties
30.2.2 Consulting
30.2.3 Private practice of the member’s profession
30.2.4 Self-employment
30.3 A member engaging in such activities shall report by 1 July to her ▇▇▇▇ (or the University Librarian), with a copy to her Chair/Director, on their nature and scope.
30.4 A member may engage in paid or unpaid outside professional activities under the following conditions:
30.4.1 Such activities shall not conflict or interfere with the performance of the member's assigned duties and responsibilities, as described in this Agreement;
30.4.2 A member shall not devote more than one (1) work day per week to such activities in any academic year;
30.4.3 Where such duties shall require more than one (1) work day or the equivalent per week of the time the member is employed by the University as per this Agreement and as per her teaching (or library work) schedule, the member, her Chair/Director, and ▇▇▇▇ (or University Librarian) shall agree, in writing, to a mutually acceptable schedule. A copy of this agreement shall be entered in the member's academic file.
30.5 The Employer shall not underwrite any extraordinary costs of outside professional activities unless the ▇▇▇▇ (or the University Librarian) has provided a written commitment prior to commencement of the activity.
30.6 If University facilities are used in connection with such activities, this use shall be undertaken with written consent, and the member shall pay the cost for any such use at prevailing rates. The member remains responsible for all matters concerning the scientific, technological and financial control of the project, and the name of the University shall not be used without prior consent.
Outside Professional Activities. With prior approval of the Governing Board, the Assistant Superintendent may undertake consultative work, speaking engagements, writing, lecturing, or other professional duties and obligations; said outside professional activities may be performed for consideration provided they do not interfere with or conflict with the Assistant Superintendent’s performance of her duties under this Agreement.
Outside Professional Activities. The nature of the professional competence of many members affords opportunities for the exercise of that competence outside the member's regular university duties, on both remunerative and non-remunerative basis. Recognizing that such professional activities can bring benefits to and enhance the reputation of the University and the capacity of members, the Board agrees that members have the right to engage in part-time professional activities, paid or unpaid, including participation in learned societies and professional associations, provided that such outside professional activities do not interfere with the performance of the member's duties or the responsibilities of their academic appointment as set out in VIII.1 of this Agreement.
Outside Professional Activities. (a) With the acceptance of a full-time appointment at the University, a Member makes a professional commitment to the University. Members are expected to direct the primacy of their professional commitment to the University. Recognizing that external professional activities can bring benefits to, and enhance the reputation of, the University, and the capacity of Members, the Employer recognizes that Members may engage in outside professional activities, provided that such activities are not undertaken in conflict with this Agreement and do not conflict or interfere with the Member’s responsibilities to the University as defined in this Agreement.
(b) The parties agree that while Members are committed to full-time employment with the University, unless otherwise provided for by this Agreement, they may engage in outside professional activities, provided that, such activities are not substantial. Such activities are considered substantial if they conflict or interfere with the fulfillment of the Member’s obligations to the University, as outlined in Article 28.
(c) Members will be responsible for seeking the ▇▇▇▇'▇ permission in writing prior to engaging in any proposed outside professional activities which might be, or could become, substantial. In such cases, if the ▇▇▇▇’▇ approval is granted, the number of hours will be noted and the ▇▇▇▇'▇ permission will be documented in writing and placed in the Member's Official File.
(d) Outside professional activities which involve a significant use of University supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services will be subject to approval by the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇. Written requests for approval will include information on the nature and scope of the outside professional activities for which support is being requested. Approval in writing, if granted, will identify all charges for supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services, which will be at the prevailing internal University rates, unless the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ agrees to waive all or part of such charges.
(e) Members will not use the corporate name and/or logo of the University when engaging in outside professional activities, unless so authorized by the Board, the President or the President’s designate. However, when engaging in such activities, Members may identify their University or academic unit affiliation, their rank and title, and the nature of their employment.

Outside Professional Activities.
