Outside Professional Activities. 27.01 Outside professional activities conducted with professional and academic responsibility can enhance the reputation of the University and the abilities of its academic staff and librarians. This article applies only to outside professional activities that involve the application of special skills and knowledge within the member’s particular professional expertise. While a member has a primary obligation to fulfil their University responsibilities, they have the right to engage in outside professional activities subject to the following conditions: 27.01.01 A member shall notify the Xxxx/University Librarian in writing of the type, time commitment, and location of any such proposed professional activity. If the proposed activity involves the teaching at another educational institution of a course related to the faculty member's professional expertise, the faculty member shall obtain the prior written permission of the Xxxx/University Librarian, and such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld; 27.01.02 Such activities shall not require the commitment of a block of time on a regular basis which might interfere with the faculty member's normal timetable for teaching activities or a librarian's performance of normal professional responsibilities. For faculty, such activities shall not require the member to devote more than an average of one working day per five-day week on an annual basis. For librarian members, such activities shall not require the member to devote more than 20 working days per calendar year. 27.01.03 Such activities shall not hinder the fulfilment of the member's obligations to the University; 27.01.04 The name of the University and University letterhead shall not be used in such activities unless agreed to in advance by the President, although nothing shall prevent a member from stating the nature and place of employment, rank, and title in connection with such professional activities, provided that they shall not purport to represent the University or to speak for it, or to have its approval, unless such approval has been given in advance in writing by the Xxxx/University Librarian; 27.01.05 Use of University facilities, equipment, supplies, services or other personnel shall require prior written authorization from the member's Xxxx/University Librarian or from the appropriate administrative officer. Outside Professional Activities. The Superintendent may undertake consultative work, speaking engagements, writing, lecturing, or other professional duties and obligations, provided such activities do not in any manner interfere or conflict with the performance of the duties and responsibilities as Superintendent.
Outside Professional Activities. (a) For the purpose of this article, "outside professional activities" means participation in the activities of professional associations, learned societies, faculty associations, or voluntary practice of the employee’s profession, which support and/or promote the advancement of research, scholarship, teaching, artistic creation, or professional development, and improve the working conditions of academic staff. (b) Employees have the right to participate in outside professional activities in accordance with Article 8.4.12. (c) Participation in outside professional activities is deemed to represent contributions to the profession and/or the community for purposes of any evaluation carried out under this Collective Agreement. (d) The Employer agrees to support an Employee's participation in professional associations and/or learned societies where possible. (e) When engaging in outside professional activities, Employees shall not claim to speak on behalf of the Employer unless specifically authorized to do so. (f) Employees may state the nature and place of their employment, rank and title(s) in connection with outside professional activities and to use their university address as a mailing address so long as they do not purport to represent the Employer or to speak on the Employer's behalf.
Outside Professional Activities. 26.01 Employees receive appointments at the University based on their expertise and competence in their respective professional fields. Outside professional activities may enhance the professional and scholarly competence of the Employee as well as the reputation of the University. 26.02 Employees may engage in professional activity with the community outside the University, provided that such activity does not conflict or interfere with the Employee’s duties or responsibilities to the Employer. The Employee shall not represent himself or herself as acting on behalf of the University. However, nothing shall prevent the Employee from stating the nature and place of his/her employment at the University. 26.03 Should outside professional activities involve the use of University employees, facilities, supplies, or services, such use shall be subject to the prior written approval of Xxxx or their designate and shall be at the prevailing rates unless the Xxxx or their designate agrees in writing to waive all or part of the charges.
Outside Professional Activities. The President/Superintendent may undertake outside professional activities, including consulting, speaking, and writing provided these activities do not interfere with the President/Superintendent’s duties.
Outside Professional Activities. The nature of the professional competence of many members affords opportunities for the exercise of that competence outside the member's regular university duties, on both remunerative and non-remunerative basis. Recognizing that such professional activities can bring benefits to and enhance the reputation of the University and the capacity of members, the Board agrees that members have the right to engage in part-time professional activities, paid or unpaid, including participation in learned societies and professional associations, provided that such outside professional activities do not interfere with the performance of the member's duties or the responsibilities of their academic appointment as set out in VIII.1 of this Agreement.

Outside Professional Activities. Recognizing that members of the academic staff are part of a wider community and have responsibilities to this community in addition to their specific University obligations and, to enhance the reputation of Carleton University, help to keep employees in touch with practice in their fields and enhance the quality of the performance of their primary functions, the parties agree that while employees are committed to full-time employment with the University, unless otherwise provided for by this agreement, they may engage in paid or unpaid outside professional/academic activities provided that:
Outside Professional Activities. (a) A Faculty Member may engage in outside professional activity or act in a consulting or advisory capacity to public or private clients, recognizing that suitable contact with the public and private sector offers a desirable means whereby he or she may relate his or her professional activities and teaching to current practice, trends and developments, subject to the following: (i) Such professional activity shall not conflict or interfere with the fulfillment of his or her duties and responsibilities to the University as provided in this Agreement; (ii) The University shall be reimbursed, at a reasonable rate set by the Employer, for supplies, equipment, facilities and the space used in connection with the outside professional activity, it being understood that University activities shall have priority in the use thereof; (iii) The name of the University shall not be used in any outside professional activity unless agreed, in writing, by the appropriate University authority. Notwithstanding the above, nothing shall prevent a member from stating the nature and place of his/her employment, rank and title, in connection with outside professional activities, provided that he/she shall not purport to represent the University or speak for it, or to have its approval unless that approval has been given in writing; (iv) The University letterhead shall not be used in correspondence between a member and his/her client, or in any report he/she may submit, and, subject to subparagraph (iii) above, the name of the University shall not appear in any publicity or commercial presentation of the results of the consulting work nor shall the member represent himself/herself as an agent of the University; and (v) All members must report annually the number of days of paid activity outside the University. If the number of days reported are twelve (12) or greater the member shall provide a brief description of each activity.
Outside Professional Activities. 30.1 The employer recognizes that participation by a faculty member in outside professional activities beyond the university (in areas such as government, industry, business, and the profession) is desirable when such participation contributes to the member’s professional and scholarly development. 30.2 For the purposes of this article, ―outside professional activities‖ are defined as: 30.2.1 Paid employment in any capacity by another employer, including carrying out teaching duties 30.2.2 Consulting 30.2.3 Private practice of the member’s profession 30.2.4 Self-employment 30.3 A member engaging in such activities shall report by 1 July to her Xxxx (or the University Librarian), with a copy to her Chair/Director, on their nature and scope. 30.4 A member may engage in paid or unpaid outside professional activities under the following conditions: 30.4.1 Such activities shall not conflict or interfere with the performance of the member's assigned duties and responsibilities, as described in this Agreement; 30.4.2 A member shall not devote more than one (1) work day per week to such activities in any academic year; 30.4.3 Where such duties shall require more than one (1) work day or the equivalent per week of the time the member is employed by the University as per this Agreement and as per her teaching (or library work) schedule, the member, her Chair/Director, and Xxxx (or University Librarian) shall agree, in writing, to a mutually acceptable schedule. A copy of this agreement shall be entered in the member's academic file. 30.5 The Employer shall not underwrite any extraordinary costs of outside professional activities unless the Xxxx (or the University Librarian) has provided a written commitment prior to commencement of the activity. 30.6 If University facilities are used in connection with such activities, this use shall be undertaken with written consent, and the member shall pay the cost for any such use at prevailing rates. The member remains responsible for all matters concerning the scientific, technological and financial control of the project, and the name of the University shall not be used without prior consent.
