Outside Professional Activities. 27.01 Outside professional activities conducted with professional and academic responsibility can enhance the reputation of the University and the abilities of its academic staff and librarians. This article applies only to outside professional activities that involve the application of special skills and knowledge within the member’s particular professional expertise. While a member has a primary obligation to fulfil their University responsibilities, they have the right to engage in outside professional activities subject to the following conditions: 27.01.01 A member shall notify the Xxxx/University Librarian in writing of the type, time commitment, and location of any such proposed professional activity. For facultyservices, such use shall be subject to the prior written approval of the Administrative Head. The request for approval shall include information on the nature and scope of the outside professional activities for which support is requested. If approval is granted, the charges for such equipment, supplies, facilities, employees or services shall be at the prevailing rates unless the Xxxxxxx & Vice-President (Academic) agrees, in writing, to waive all or part of the charges. When engaging in outside professional activities, the ASM shall ensure that he or she does not require represent himself or herself as acting on behalf of the member to devote more than University. The University will assume no liability for any action brought against an average ASM as a result of one working day per five-day week on an annual basis. 27.01.01 1. Such professional activity shall not conflict or interfere with the fulfilment of his/her duties and responsibilities to the University as provided in this agreement;
2. Such professional activities shall not reflect adversely on, or be to the detriment of the University;
3. A faculty member must disclose and seek approval from the Xxxx to undertake outside professional activity when such activity has the potential of not complying with clauses 1 and 2 above. The disclosure shall notify be in writing and shall include:
a) a full description of the work or activity;
b) an estimate of the time required or the time period to perform the work (number of hours per week over a period of time, number of weeks, the term or terms when the majority of the activity is scheduled to take place.);
c) the extent of the use, if any, of University facilities, supplies, support staff or students;
d) any other external activities that have already been approved in that year or that are continuing from an earlier year; and
e) the impact of the activity will have on teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The following factors shall serve as guidelines to determine whether the outside professional activity requires prior disclosures to, and approval by the Xxxx/University Librarian in writing :
a) The activity is one that conflicts with the faculty member’s teaching activities, e.g. necessitates a rescheduling of the typeteaching sessions, time commitment, and location of any such proposed professional activity. If the proposed activity involves the teaching at another educational institution of a course related or that reduces student access to the faculty member's professional expertise, etc.;
b) The activity is one that results in the faculty member shall obtain the prior written permission of the Xxxxhaving less time to devote to his/University Librarian, her SRC duties and such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld;conflicts with his/her obligations set out in Article 7 Obligations and Article 10 Workload; or
27.01.02 Such activities shall not require the commitment of a block of time on a regular basis which might interfere with c) The activity is one that reduces the faculty member's normal timetable for teaching activities or a librarian's performance of normal professional responsibilities. For faculty, such activities shall not require the member ’s ability to devote more than an average of one working day per five-day week on an annual basis. Outside Professional Activities. 27.01 Outside 18.6.1 The nature of the professional competence of many Members affords opportunities for the exercise of that competence outside the Member's regular university duties, on both remunerative and non-remunerative bases. 18.6.2 A Member shall not hold both a full-time appointment at the University Librarian;and a full-time appointment at another institution or organization, except as provided in Article 17.8.
27.01.05 Use 18.6.3 If the participation in activities described in clause 18.6.1 conflicts or interferes with the obligations, duties and responsibilities of University facilitiesthe Member as defined in this Article 18, equipment, supplies, services or other personnel shall require prior written authorization from the member's Xxxx/University Librarian or from the appropriate administrative officer. 27.01.05 Use of University facilitiesthis Agreement, equipment, supplies, services or other personnel shall require prior written authorization from the member's Xxxx/University Librarian or from the appropriate administrative officer. 27.01.06 A member engaged they may engage in outside professional activities, provided that, such activities shall hold are not substantial. Such activities are considered substantial if they conflict or interfere with the University harmless against any loss or damage that fulfillment of the University may suffer from such activities; and,
27.01.07 In preparing their Annual ReportMember’s obligations to the University, each member shall include a statement of their outside professional activities as outlined in the previous yearArticle 28.
27.02 If (c) Members will be responsible for seeking the Xxxx/University Librarian has cause for concern, the Xxxx/University Librarian has the right Xxxx'x permission in writing prior to review a member's current or engaging in any proposed outside professional activities which might be, or could become, substantial. In such cases, if the Xxxx’x approval is granted, the number of hours will be noted and may require the member Xxxx'x permission will be documented in writing and placed in the Member's Official File.
(d) Outside professional activities which involve a significant use of University supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services will be subject to provide approval by the Xxxxxxx. Written requests for approval will include information concerning on the time devoted nature and scope of the outside professional activities for which support is being requested. Approval in writing, if granted, will identify all charges for supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services, which will be at the prevailing internal University rates, unless the Xxxxxxx agrees to current and past waive all or part of such charges.
(e) Members will not use the corporate name and/or logo of the University when engaging in outside professional activities, unless so authorized by the Board, the President or the President’s designate. However, when engaging in such activities, Members may identify their University or academic unit affiliation, their rank and title, and the nature of their employment.
(f) The Xxxx/University Librarian shall inform assumes no liability for any action brought against a Member as a result of outside professional activities.
(g) Some or all of a Member’s outside professional activities may be considered for tenure or promotion decisions. However, it is the member in writing Member’s responsibility to establish the relevance of the results of the review and, if necessary, of any corrective action which might be required of the membersuch activities.

Outside Professional Activities. 27.01 Outside professional activities conducted with professional (a) Recognizing that Members are part of a wider community and academic responsibility can have responsibilities to this community in addition to their specific University obligations, to enhance the reputation of Nipissing University, and to help keep Members in touch with practice in their fields and enhance the University and quality of the abilities performance of its academic staff and librarians. (c) Outside professional activities which involve a significant use of University supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services will be subject to provide approval by the Vice-President, Finance and Administration. Written requests for approval will include information concerning on the time devoted nature and scope of the outside professional activities for which support is being requested. Approval in writing, if granted, will identify all charges for supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services, which will be at the prevailing internal University rates, unless the Vice-President, Finance and Administration agrees to current and past waive all or part of such charges.
(d) Members will not use the corporate name and/or logo of the University when engaging in outside professional activities, unless so authorized by the Board, the President or his/her designate. However, when engaging in such activities,

A faculty member has a primary obligation to fulfil their University responsibilities, they have the right to may engage in outside professional activity or act in a consulting or advisory capacity to public or private clients, recognizing that suitable contact with the public and private sector offers a desirable means whereby he/she may relate his/her professional activities and teaching to current practice, trends and developments, subject to the following conditionsfollowing:
27.01.01 1. Such professional activity shall not conflict or interfere with the fulfilment of his/her duties and responsibilities to the University as provided in this agreement;
2. Such professional activities shall not reflect adversely on, or be to the detriment of the University;
3. A faculty member must disclose and seek approval from the Xxxx to undertake outside professional activity when such activity has the potential of not complying with clauses 1 and 2 above. The disclosure shall notify be in writing and shall include:
a) a full description of the work or activity;
b) an estimate of the time required or the time period to perform the work (number of hours per week over a period of time, number of weeks, the term or terms when the majority of the activity is scheduled to take place.);
c) the extent of the use, if any, of University facilities, supplies, support staff or students;
d) any other external activities that have already been approved in that year or that are continuing from an earlier year; and
e) the impact of the activity will have on teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The following factors shall serve as guidelines to determine whether the outside professional activity requires prior disclosures to, and approval by the Xxxx/University Librarian in writing :
a) The activity is one that conflicts with the faculty member’s teaching activities, e.g. necessitates a rescheduling of the typeteaching sessions, time commitment, and location of any such proposed professional activity. If the proposed activity involves the teaching at another educational institution of a course related or that reduces student access to the faculty member's professional expertise, etc.;
b) The activity is one that results in the faculty member shall obtain the prior written permission of the Xxxxhaving less time to devote to his/University Librarian, her SRC duties and such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld;conflicts with his/her obligations set out in Article 7 Obligations and Article 10 Workload; or

(a) Recognizing that Members are part of a wider community and academic responsibility can have responsibilities to this community, in addition to their specific University obligations, to enhance the reputation of Nipissing University, and to help keep Members in touch with practice in their fields and enhance the University and quality of the abilities performance of its academic staff and librarians. This article applies only their primary functions, the parties agree that while Members are committed to outside professional activities that involve full-time employment with the application of special skills and knowledge within the member’s particular professional expertise. While a member has a primary obligation to fulfil their University responsibilitiesUniversity, unless otherwise provided for by this Agreement, they have the right to may engage in paid or unpaid outside professional activities subject to the following conditions:
27.01.01 A member shall notify the Xxxx/University Librarian in writing of the type, time commitment, and location of any such proposed professional activity. If the proposed activity involves the teaching at another educational institution of a course related to the faculty member's professional expertise, the faculty member shall obtain the prior written permission of the Xxxx/University Librarian, and such permission shall not be unreasonably withheld;
27.01.02 Such activities shall not require the commitment of a block of time on a regular basis which might interfere with the faculty member's normal timetable for teaching activities or a librarian's performance of normal professional responsibilities. For faculty, such activities shall not require the member to devote more than an average of one working day per five-day week on an annual basis. For librarian members, such activities shall not require the member to devote more than 20 working days per calendar year.
27.01.03 Such activities shall not hinder the fulfilment of the member's obligations to the University;
27.01.04 The name of the University and University letterhead shall not be used in such activities unless agreed to in advance by the President, although nothing shall prevent a member from stating the nature and place of employment, rank, and title in connection with such professional activities, provided that such activities are not substantial. Such activities are considered substantial if they shall not purport conflict or interfere with the fulfillment of the Member’s obligations to represent the University or to speak for itUniversity, or to have its approvalincluding teaching, unless such approval has been given in advance in writing by the Xxxx/University Librarian;
27.01.05 Use scholarly work and a fair share of University facilities, equipment, supplies, services or other personnel shall require prior written authorization from the member's Xxxx/University Librarian or from the appropriate administrative officer. Financial arrangements for such use shall be made in advance. University activities shall have priority in the use of such facilities, equipment, supplies, services and personnel;
27.01.06 A member engaged in outside professional activities shall hold the University harmless against any loss or damage that the University may suffer from such activities; and,
27.01.07 In preparing their Annual Report, each member shall include a statement of their outside professional activities in the previous yearservice.
27.02 If (b) Members will be responsible for obtaining the Xxxx/University Librarian has cause for concern, the Xxxx/University Librarian has the right Xxxx'x permission prior to review a member's current or engaging in any proposed outside professional activities or employment which are, or could become, substantial. In such cases, if the Xxxx’x approval is granted, the number of hours will be noted and may require the member Xxxx'x permission will be documented in writing and placed in the Member's Official File.
(c) Outside professional activities which involve a significant use of University supplies, equipment, facilities, employees or services will be subject to provide approval by the Vice-President, Finance and Administration.
