Overall Goals. 1. Develop bioenergy sorghum inbreds/hybrids that are high yielding, widely adapted, and have optimum biomass composition for biofuels and bioenergy production systems. 2. Identify and capture IP on key genes/alleles that contribute to bioenergy traits to protect the value of sorghum bioenergy genotypes co-developed by TAES/CERES. 3. Develop sorghum as a model C4 bioenergy grass genetic system for trait assessment and gene discovery for use in other biomass crops such as switchgrass and energycane.
