OVERLAP OF VACATION WITH OTHER LEAVES OF ABSENCE. When an employee is entitled to sick leave, family leave (bereavement, etc.), or any other approved leave of absence with pay during their vacation period, the applicable leave of absence shall prevail and there shall be no deduction from the employee’s vacation entitlements. Instead, the period of vacation which is thus displaced by the applicable leave of absence shall be taken later at a time mutually acceptable to the employee concerned and the University. An employee claiming an entitlement to sick leave during their vacation must substantiate this claim by providing the University with a note from a doctor of the employee’s choice stating that the employee was ill or injured such that they would have been unable to attend work during the period of claimed sick leave entitlement and this note must have been obtained by the employee either during or in reasonable proximity to the conclusion of the illness or injury.
