Common use of Parental Leave of up to thirty Clause in Contracts

Parental Leave of up to thirty. five (35) weeks for a Teacher who takes a Pregnancy leave or up to thirty-seven (37) weeks for other Teachers shall be available to a Teacher in accordance with the terms of the Employment Standards Act, and subject to the following: a) biological mothers - immediately following Pregnancy Leave. b) other parents as defined by the Employment Standards Act - within fifty-two (52) weeks of the child being born, or in the case of adoption, coming into care. For planned parental leaves, Teachers should notify the Principal and arrange a suitable date for the commencement of the Leave as far in advance as possible, but shall do so not less than two (2) weeks prior to the day on which the Leave will commence. For parental leave for adoption purposes, Teachers should notify the Principal of intent to adopt at least three (3) months prior to the adoption, on the understanding that it may be necessary to commence the Leave immediately the child becomes available. 10.06 a) The Board shall pay its normal premium contributions for any plan under Article 25 in which a Teacher who is on Pregnancy Leave or Parental Leave participates, for the period of leave required by the Employment Standards Act, but not during the period of any further extension of leave granted pursuant to Article 10.03. Such benefits shall be subject to the rights of the insurer.
