Common use of Parenting Leave for Adoption Clause in Contracts

Parenting Leave for Adoption. Any parenting leave for adoption of a child(ren) that does not have documented medical need is applied toward the twelve weeks provided under the Family Medical Leave Act. For any leave of absence for adoption, employees shall be able to access their earned sick leave during the parenting leave up to twelve (12) weeks. Documentation of date of adoption shall be submitted to the Human Resources Department. Employees may use their earned sick leave for up to thirty (30) duty days, of the twelve (12) weeks of parenting leave, prior to the arrival of an adopted child(ren) when the adoption procedures include a legal requirement that the adopting parent be present. Such use of duty days need not be used consecutively.
