Pay Upon Promotion. The salary of an employee who advances from one grade to a higher grade shall be determined by adding 5% to the salary received in the lower classification and then finding the salary increment nearest that figure in the new classification. The employee shall thereafter be advanced in accordance with Section 9.02 (Pay Progressions) of this article. The 5% calculation shall also be applicable whenever an employee is detailed to perform all or substantially all of the duties of a higher-paid classification. In the event that the employee achieves a step increase while serving in a detail capacity, the employee’s pay will be re-computed based upon their new wage in their permanently certified title. An employee who voluntarily demotes to their previously held position within twelve (12) calendar months following promotion shall be returned to the same pay step which was applicable immediately prior to the promotion.
