Pre-Placement Adoption Leave. ‌ (a) Upon request and with appropriate documentation, an employee is entitled to pre-adoption leave without pay of up to seven weeks (245 work hours) per calendar year with an allowance of 85% of their basic pay during the leave period. (b) The leave may be taken intermittently and only for the purpose of: (1) attending mandatory pre-placement visits with the prospective adoptive child; (2) to complete the legal process required by the child's or children's country for an international adoption while the employee is in the country. (c) Leave under this provision will end with the placement of the adoptive child(ren) and may not be used for an employee to travel. (d) Pre-placement visits are not normally required where the adoption is a direct placement. Examples of direct placement adoptions are: (1) adoptions by a family member; (2) adoptions by the partner of a birth parent; and (3) adoptions by xxxxxx parents if the child or children were living with the xxxxxx parents immediately before the adoption process.
