Proposed Sidewalk Alternatives. The existing sidewalk profiles on both sides of Alden Road fail to meet current ADA guidelines with profiles steeper than 8% and a lack of landing platforms. We designed new sidewalk profiles with the sidewalk in its current horizontal position near the right-of-way. The new sidewalk profile required steps at three properties between the new public sidewalk and the perpendicular private walks connecting to the homes. The County asked us to explore options for reducing or eliminating these steps, and we developed four sidewalk alternatives: Alternative #1 – Maintaining Steps within the Existing ROW Alternative #2 – Shift Public Walk Closer to Road and Maintain Steps within the Existing ROW Alternative #3 – Shift Public Walk Closer to the Road with No Steps Alternative #4 – Shift Public Walk Closer to the Road and with No Steps and adjust Profile to Max. 8.33% We prepared cross sections for each alternative and summarized the results in a memo submitted to the County, and Alternative #4 was preferred. We modified the proposed sidewalk profile on each side of November 20, 0000 Xxxxx Xxxx, adjusted the horizontal location of the sidewalk, performed additional topographic survey at three parcels, and extended temporary easements at two parcels. Xxxxxxxxx modified the plats and legal descriptions for the parcels at #9215 and #9218 and re-submitted to IDOT for approval.
