Purpose and Definition. 6.1.1 Professional development is a process by which Educational Support Professionals improve and expand their skills as a member of a team and individually to meet the needs of a changing student population and to increase student achievement. Professional development is planned to meet the identified growth areas of each individual. The professional development process is an individualized plan tailored to meet the needs of the new hire as well as the continuing development of the more experienced.
