Qualifications of Academy Board Members. To be qualified to serve on the Academy Board, a person shall: (a) be a citizen of the United States; (b) reside in the State of Michigan; (c) submit all materials requested by the GVSU Charter Schools Office including, but not limited to, a GVSU Academy Board Member Questionnaire and a release for criminal history background check; (d) not be an employee of the Academy; (e) not be a director, officer, or employee of a company or other entity that contracts with the Academy; and (f) not be an employee or representative of GVSU or be a member of the Board of Trustees. Subsection (e) of the preceding paragraph shall not apply to a director, officer, or employee of the Academy’s founding institutions: the Flint Cultural Center Corporation; the Flint Institute of Arts; the Flint Institute of Music; The Xxxxxxx; Xxxxx Museum; Xxxxxxx Planetarium; and the Flint Public Library. However, the Academy Board shall comply with all applicable conflict of interest laws, including but not limited to Section 1203 of the Revised School Code, being Section 380.1203 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, which requires a member of the board of a directors of a public school academy who believes or has reason to believe that he or she has a conflict of interest with regard to a contract or other financial transaction to abstain from voting on the matter and to disclose the specific conflict of interest to the board.

Qualifications of Academy Board Members. To be qualified to serve on an academy’s board of directors, a person shall, among other things: (a) be a citizen of the United States; (b) be a resident of the state of Michigan; (c) submit all materials requested by the charter schools office including, but not limited to, the Application for Public School Academy Board Appointment which must include authorization to process a criminal background check; and (d) annually submit a conflict of interest disclosure as prescribed by the Superintendent. The members of an academy board of directors shall not include: (a) employees of the academy; (b) any director, officer, or employee of a service provider or management company that contracts with the academy; (c) a DeTour Area Schools official or employee, as a representative of DeTour Area Schools.
