Additional activities related to ranching operations include maintenance of roads including small gravel pit operations in various locations and maintenance of buildings, corrals, utility systems, storage and maintenance of Ranch equipment and facilities, etc. A critical element of DLL operations includes management of sagebrush, grass and forb mixtures to maintain the desired mix of early, mid and late seral vegetative stages. Vegetation treatment will be done by aeration, plowing, chemical sprays and prescribed fire and selective planting of desirable species of brush, grass and forbs, including reintroduction of strains of native forbs and grasses possessing higher forage values for livestock and Covered Species. Treatments will be done in relatively small and irregular, patchy, patterns in increments of a few hundred to a few thousand acres creating a mosaic of desirable seral stages of vegetation with attention to preserving GSG leks, nesting, rearing and wintering areas. Vegetation treatment activities will be managed in recognition that vegetative composition on the Ranch is dynamic and brush re-growth rates vary depending on the technique used and location. Initially, DLL will use the herbicides listed in Appendix 3 in accordance with the best management practices contained in Appendix 3. If DLL desires to use a herbicide or herbicides not listed in Appendix 3, DLL will consult with USFWS before such usage and will only use such herbicide or herbicides after approval thereof by USFWS. If such usage is approved by USFWS, such herbicide or herbicides shall be deemed to be a herbicide or herbicides covered under this Section and shall be an additional allowed herbicide or herbicides pursuant to Appendix 3.
