Common use of SICK LEAVE INCENTIVE BUY-OUT PROGRAM Clause in Contracts

SICK LEAVE INCENTIVE BUY-OUT PROGRAM. On October 1st of each calendar year, employees may participate in the sick leave incentive buy-out program as detailed in this section. Provided the firefighter maintains 480 total hours (40-hour employees) or 672 total hours (24-hour shift), the employee may choose to sell sick leave hours at the current hourly rate. The City will buy out a maximum of 40 hours (40-hour employees) or 53 hours (24-hour shift) of the sick leave hours annually. Total hours sold for any year is calculated by subtracting hours used that year from 40 (for 40-hour personnel) and from 53 (for 24-hour personnel) The program year is defined as the day after the second pay day in November until the date of the following year’s second November pay date. Xxxxxxxxxxx leave is counted against employee sick leave account, but not counted against the sick leave buy-out incentive. Such payment shall be made in the last pay period in November of each year. The employee will send the written request through the appropriate chain of command to Finance by October 1st for the payment to take effect. Due to Firefighter/EMT employees’ excessive exposition to may sicknesses as part of their official duty, MFD employees may also submit for sick leave buy-out incentive by April 1 of each year, at half the above rates. A 40 hour employee may submit for 20 (minus usage for that period) and a 24 hour employee may submit for 26.5 (minus usage for that period). The employee will send the written request through the appropriate chain of command to Finance by April1st, but payment will not be made until the last pay period in November of that year. When the employee elects to utilize the mid-year 1 April period, the subsequent October 1st submission would be for the other half of the annual entitlement.
