Skill Development. The Company acknowledges the changing pace of technology in the electrical contracting industry and the need for employees to understand those changes and have the necessary skill requirements to keep the Company at the forefront of the industry. The parties to this Agreement recognise that in order to increase the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of the Company, a commitment to training and skill development is required. Accordingly, the parties commit themselves to: (a) Developing a more highly skilled and flexible workforce. (b) Providing employees with career opportunities through appropriate training to acquire the additional skills as required by the Company. Taking into account: (a) the current and future skill needs of the Company; (b) the size, structure and nature of the Company; and (c) the need to develop vocational skills relevant to the Company and the Electrical Contracting Industry. The Company is committed to developing and implementing skills formation opportunities for its workers covered by this Agreement. Specific training will be given to all employees who, through promotion or changing job roles, need training in specific areas. Training provided by the Company has traditionally been carried out during normal working hours. The Company will pay for course fees and training time for Company required courses. Special courses requested by employees will be assessed on a Company-needs basis. Suitable arrangements and provision of costs will then be determined. Out of hours training time for these courses will not be paid by the Company. Where a course (such as a cabling course) has a licence requirement which is beneficial to the Company, the Company will pay for the course fee, manuals, materials, books and updates. Licence renewal will be the responsibility of the employee.

Skill Development. This Agreement aims to encourage all employees to improve their skills through industry recognised training. Employees will also undertake training in the use of the company’s quality procedures. Project Consultative Committees will consider a skill development plan for each project, based on the training opportunities and facilities provided on the project. Inclement weather time will be devoted to agreed structured training when it is feasible for training to be delivered. Otherwise the procedures established in the Parent Award will prevail.

Skill Development. Where required by the Company the employees agree to participate in the development of an appropriate Human Resource Information System to enable more effective planning and utilisation of existing personnel within the organisation. To facilitate this process the parties agree to participate in an appropriate skills analysis and subsequent training needs analysis by the Company. This information will be used to encourage employees to undertake further training and development. All employees acknowledge the importance of participation in training of apprentices and will assist management in their training and assessment. Employees who commit to further study and are willing to take opportunities to develop higher level technical and or people management skills improve their potential to progress through the classification structure set out in Appendix B Wiring Rules Refresher Course, are required to be undertaken each time a new AS/NZ 3000 Wiring Rules edition is released. This course is usually one (1) night per week for ten (10) weeks and must be completed within six (6) months of the new edition being released. New employees must undertake this course at the next available course date. The Parties agree that a pay back system shall be used with respect to all costs incurred by the Company for Employee training. For the purpose of this pay back system, costs shall include, but not limited to, course fees, required text books and wages for training attended during ordinary working hours, that are associated with the training. These costs shall not exceed an amount that can be repaid within 12 months under either of the pay back methods outlined in this sub-clause. It is clearly understood that the pay back system is designed to ensure that the recipient pays back the training costs by one of the following methods: • Repay the costs by means of service to the company whereby, one (1) week’s service is equivalent to $50.00 costs; • Repay the costs by means of deduction from payments due at termination of employment. ▪ It is clearly understood by the Parties that the pay back system is only applicable where: • The Employee/s initiate termination; or • The Employee/s termination was due to serious misconduct.

Skill Development. (a) continuously develop skill levels and more efficient work practices that will enhance the efficiency, flexibility and productivity of the Company’s production workforce; (b) identify learning needs according to organisational goals and make recommendations for the development of learning programs to accommodate those needs.
