Structural metadata Sample Clauses

Structural metadata. Structural metadata is expressed by means of the METS standard. Some of the high level functions which the standard fulfils in the context of the AIP are the following.  It provides an overview about the hierarchical structure of the AIP.  It is an entry point for the AIP, i.e. the first entity to consult to know what an AIP contains and what entities it references.  It references any metadata files describing the package as a whole as well as individual content files.  It contains a complete list of digital objects contained in a package together with basic information to ensure the integrity of the digital objects.  It establishes links between digital objects and metadata entities (both structural metadata and preservation metadata entities).  It can hold information about different representations or representation parts belonging to the same intellectual entity. This section has a focus on METS, therefore, if no namespace prefix is given, the element belongs to the METS default namespace24.
