Student Locomotive Engineer. Trainmen will be advised, in seniority order, of opportunities to become engineers. Trainmen who decline this opportunity lose their date of hire seniority as engineers. If such trainmen become engineers at a later date, seniority will be based on date training was completed. Within six (6) months, student engineers must complete training as outlined in the log book, pass the required examination and qualify for the Diesel Certificate and Ticket from the governing provincial body. Selected student engineers will have conductor’s qualifications. During training the student will be paid seven point five (7.5) hours per shift at the Head-end brakeman rate.
