Study purpose and significance. Disclosure of HIV status has the potential to support risk reduction, facilitate access to care and increase support for the patient. However, there are many people who are not willing to disclose their status for many reasons. The purpose of this study is to identify the barriers that people face with respect to HIV status self-disclosure. In the future, we hope this will enable people living with HIV to overcome these barriers and freely disclose their status to others, ultimately assisting in prevention of HIV transmission.
