Substitute Teachers. 21.01 A substitute teacher is employed by the Division either to replace a regular teacher or fulfill an assignment which is less than twenty (20) consecutive days in duration.
21.02 Upon commencement of the sixth (6th) day of substitute teaching in the same assignment, a substitute teacher shall be paid for each day taught at the per diem rate (to be calculated as 1/x of the salary to which a teacher of the same qualifications and experience would be entitled under the basic salary schedule of the current collective agreement, where x equals the number of days in the current school year). This rate of pay shall be retroactive to the first day of the teaching assignment and shall continue in effect until the end of that specific teaching assignment. In-service days, administrative days and school closure days shall not constitute a break in the consecutive days for that specific teaching assignment.
21.03 Substitute teachers shall be paid as follows: Daily Rate (including vacation pay) 165.66 ** **Substitute Teacher rates for the 2021/2022 school year will be effective on the date the parties confirm the amount of the COLA adjustment (in January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.) Pay relating to the salary earned by substitute teachers during any month shall be forwarded to those teachers not later than the fifteenth (15th) day of the following calendar month.
21.04 Manitoba Teachers’ Society fees and Xxxxxxx Teachers’ Association fees shall be deducted from a substitute teacher’s pay. The Association shall indemnify and save harmless the Division from any and all losses, costs, liabilities or expenses suffered or sustained by the Division as a result of any claim or legal action arising from the deduction of local Association fees or Manitoba Teachers’ Society Fees.
21.05 A substitute teacher who has been employed for at least nine (9) consecutive days of substitute teaching in the same assignment in a school year shall be entitled to one (1) day of sick leave with pay for each nine (9) days taught in that assignment. Xxxx leave shall not accumulate from assignment to assignment. The use of sick leave with pay shall not constitute an interruption of the substitute teaching assignment.

Substitute Teachers. In lieu of salary under the Basic Salary Schedule, the District shall pay to teachers employed on the basis of the teacher being available for service if and when called upon by the District, and known as Substitute Teachers, an allowance of $217.04 per day of teaching effective September 1, 2011. Half days will be paid at 50 per cent of the full day allowance.
Substitute Teachers. The Board agrees at all times to maintain a list of substitute teachers. Teachers shall be informed of a telephone number that they may call before 6:15 a.m. to report unavailability for work. Once a teacher has reported unavailability, it shall be the responsibility of the Administration to arrange for a substitute teacher.
Substitute Teachers. 6.7.1. When a substitute teacher (including resource and reading teachers) is required because of teacher illness or other teacher absence, the teacher shall notify the principal and shall follow the procedures designated for arranging for a substitute through the District automated substitute teacher program. Teachers shall notify their principal and shall arrange for a substitute as far in advance of their anticipated absence as possible. Teachers anticipating absence due to illness shall inform their principal no later than the notification deadline established by the school. Each principal shall determine the appropriate notification deadline for his/her school and shall inform school staff of this deadline. After meeting the notification requirements listed above, teachers absent due to illness should not be required to return to their teaching position in cases when substitutes are not found. Similarly, teachers who have met the above requirements in order to attend an approved District inservice or workshop, should not be required to cancel except as a last resort on an emergency basis. Under normal circumstances, the teacher has the responsibility to provide the substitute with appropriate lesson plans, seating charts and classroom procedures.
6.7.2. The teaching staff shall indicate to the principal those substitutes who have been satisfactory and may recommend a specific teacher.
6.7.3. The teacher may contact the substitute teacher previously agreed upon with the principal to provide additional instructions. If it is anticipated that the absence will be more than two (2) days, the principal may ask the teacher to personally contact the substitute previously agreed upon to make the specific arrangements.
6.7.4. To provide maximum assistance to substitute teachers, adequate plans and proper directions shall be provided.
6.7.5. Qualified teachers shall be identified on an approved list considering past performance, training and ability and shall be given preference where practicable.
6.7.6. Substitute teachers shall provide a daily report of class activities and assignments to the teacher and/or principal. Such reports shall be attached to the teacher’s lesson plans.
6.7.7. Xxxxx teachers serving as substitutes for teachers will be paid at the long-term substitute rate. The substitute rate shall be pro-rated to an hourly basis if the assignment is for fewer than three (3) hours per day.

Substitute Teachers. The AGENCY shall employ BOARD approved substitute teachers. A listing of BOARD-approved substitutes will be provided to the AGENCY. Potential substitutes can be trained by the Board prior to approval or the AGENCY can provide its own training. All substitutes must be BOARD approved and fingerprint verification must be submitted prior to approval.
Substitute Teachers. The provisions of the Collective Agreement do not apply to substitute teachers except as expressly provided for in Article 3.9
Substitute Teachers. It is the intent of the Parties to allow the Board full flexibility in the hiring of substitute teachers.
1. Certification match (i.e. Social Studies certified substitute teacher assigned to cover the classes of an absent Social Studies teacher).
2. Level match (i.e. secondary certified substitute teacher assigned to cover the class of an absent secondary teacher).
3. Teacher match (i.e. any certified substitute teacher assigned to cover the class of an absent teacher). The Board shall employ, as a minimum, that number of LTS and LTSP equal to the average number of LTS and LTSP needed on a daily basis during the preceding year. The number of LTS and LTSP needed on a daily basis shall be determined by the parties no later than June 1st of each year. Any teacher whose name appears on any Recall Seniority List prior to September 1, 1995 shall not waive his/her recall seniority rights to be recalled as a per-diem substitute teacher, long-term substitute teacher, long-term substitute teacher in-pool or as a probationary/regular teacher when said position(s) become available. Any teacher hired on September 1, 1995, or thereafter, as a per diem substitute teacher, long-term substitute teacher or long-term substitute teacher in-pool whose name does not appear on the 1994-95 Recall Seniority List or any previous Recall Seniority List shall be eligible to serve as a per-diem substitute teacher, long-term substitute teacher or long-term substitute teacher in-pool and be eligible for all the rights and privileges of said teaching positions(s) except that said teacher shall not be eligible for placement on any Recall Seniority List unless said teacher receives a layoff notice as a probationary regular teacher. Any teacher whose name appears on a Recall Seniority list shall be hired in seniority order as a LTS or LTSP prior to any teacher not on a Recall Seniority list. Should the number of LTS and LTSP needed on a daily basis be insufficient to cover the classes of teachers absent or away from their assignment, the priority order of assigning additional substitute teachers is as follows:
A. In seniority order, a teacher whose name appears on a Recall Seniority list and who has not been recalled as an R, LTS or LTSP.

Substitute Teachers. A regular teacher who has need for a substitute shall, when such need is evident, notify the principal (or designee) who will employ the substitute. Whenever a teacher is absent, the teacher must complete and provide detailed written instructions.
Substitute Teachers. When a classroom teacher is absent from class, reasonable efforts shall be made to provide a substitute other than a regular classroom teacher to cover the absent teacher’s class. The classes of an absent teacher shall not be divided up and placed into other teachers’ regular classes except in an emergency. An emergency shall exist when less than one hour’s advance notice is given prior to the start of the teacher work day.
Substitute Teachers. Employees shall notify the Employer of their absence as soon as possible by calling the automated substitute system, which shall fulfill the responsibility of the Employee. In the event of a planned absence, the Employee may register within the automated system up to 30 days in advance of that absence. Nothing in this article shall mean that a teacher may willingly leave a classroom unsupervised. Members of the bargaining unit shall not be required to act as substitutes for other members of the bargaining unit except as a last resort in an emergency situation.
