Substitute Teachers. 21.01 A 14.11.1 Preferential consideration will be given to calling bargaining unit substitutes for day-to-day positions and for long-term assignments.
14.11.2 Substitutes will not be intentionally terminated from a continuing assignment to prevent achievement of long term status.
14.11.3 If a substitute is called back for the same teacher in a continuous assignment within five (5) working days, that person's term of assignment and pay will continue as if there were no break in service.

14.11.8 At the District's discretion, retired teachers may be paid the per diem rate they were earning prior to retirement if they are requested to provide substitute service.

14.11.10 All Early Childhood Education substitute service and all teaching beyond the 202 day work year will be paid at the K-12 daily substitute salary schedule rate. 21.03 Substitute teachers shall be paid as follows: Daily Rate (including vacation payD) 165.66 ** **Substitute Teacher rates for the 2021/2022 school year will be effective on the date the parties confirm the amount of the COLA adjustment (in January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.) Pay relating to the salary earned by substitute teachers during any month shall be forwarded to those teachers not later than the fifteenth (15th) day of the following calendar month.
21.04 Manitoba Teachers’ Society fees and Xxxxxxx Teachers’ Association fees shall be deducted from a substitute teacher’s pay. The Association shall indemnify and save harmless the Division from any and all losses, costs, liabilities or expenses suffered or sustained by the Division as a result of any claim or legal action arising from the deduction of local Association fees or Manitoba Teachers’ Society Fees.
21.05 A substitute teacher who has been employed for at least nine (9) consecutive days of substitute teaching working in the same assignment in a position for more than twenty consecutive school year days shall be entitled to receive one (1) day of sick leave with pay for each nine twenty consecutive days of completed work, said day to be granted following completion of the twenty consecutive work day period.

21.07 The provisions of the Collective Agreement do not apply to substitute teachers except as expressly provided for in Article 21 – Substitute Teachers:

Substitute Teachers. 21.01 A 14.11.1 Preferential consideration will be given to calling bargaining unit substitutes for day-to-day positions and for long-term assignments.
14.11.2 Substitutes will not be intentionally terminated from a continuing assignment to prevent achievement of long term status.
14.11.3 If a substitute is called back for the same teacher in a continuous assignment within five (5) working days, that person's term of assignment and pay will continue as if there were no break in service.
14.11.4 If a substitute's service is employed interrupted by personal illness and s/he subsequently returns to the Division either to replace continuing assignment, this shall not be considered a regular break in service.
14.11.5 Laid-off teachers who are rehired after expiration of the legal rehiring rights shall be given one (1) year salary schedule credit for each year of previous service in Berkeley as a contract teacher or fulfill an assignment which is less a substitute who served more than twenty (20) consecutive days in duration75% of the school year.
21.02 Upon commencement of 14.11.6 Properly credentialed bargaining unit substitutes and bargaining unit hourly teachers will be given the sixth (6th) day of right to an interview for any new or vacant positions for which they apply.
14.11.7 The District will provide information to substitute teaching teachers and hourly teachers describing how individuals can best qualify and compete for permanent vacancies in the same assignmentDistrict.
14.11.8 At the District's discretion, a substitute teacher shall retired teachers may be paid for each day taught at the per diem rate (they were earning prior to be calculated as 1/x of the salary retirement if they are requested to which a teacher of the same qualifications and experience would be entitled under the basic salary schedule of the current collective agreement, where x equals the number of days in the current school year).
