TEACHER ASSIGNMENT. 9:1 All teachers shall be given written notice of their step-on guide, tentative class and/or subject assignments for the forthcoming year, not later than May 30th of the then current school year. 9:2 Schedules of teachers who are assigned to more than one school shall be arranged so that no such teacher shall be required to engage in an unreasonable amount of inter-school travel. In the event that a teacher objects to the transfer or reassignment at this meeting, the Superintendent will meet with the teacher upon request. The teacher may have an Association representative at all such meetings. (a) In the event that a teacher is assigned a transfer during a school year, he/she will be given two (2) days release time or compensation at the summer rate of pay for two (2) days, provided he/she will work in his/her building for at least two (2) days, (6) hours per day. (b) In the event that a teacher is assigned a transfer schedules are proposed after the last day of school, the Association and prior to all teachers affected will be notified promptly, in writing, by the first day District or its designee, and upon the request of the following yearteacher and the Association, he/she the changes will be given compensation promptly reviewed between the Superintendent or the Superintendent's representative and the Association.
B. In order to assure that pupils are taught by teachers working within their areas of competence, teachers will not be assigned, except temporarily and for good cause, outside the scope of their teaching certificates and/or their major or minor fields of study.
C. Wherever practicable, changes in grade assignment in the elementary schools and in subject assignment in the secondary schools will be voluntary, except in cases of emergency. Assignments shall not be arbitrary or capricious.
D. A family member will not be disqualified from assignment to or remaining at the summer rate same school simply because of pay for two (2) daystheir family status to an employee at the same location. Notwithstanding, provided he/she and in the case where one family member accepts an administrative position in the school or a department head position in the department in which the other family member teaches, the other teaching member will work in his/her building for at least two (2) daysbe assigned to another school. The term family member shall include, (6) six hours per daybut not limited to, individuals joined by civil union, marriage or adoption.
E. Each middle and high school shall maintain, whenever necessary, a detention hall. Detention hall supervision shall first be offered to teachers. If no teachers apply, then the Board or its designee may assign non-bargaining unit members to perform this duty. If, in the opinion of the Principal, there are no qualified teachers or no qualified non-bargaining unit members have applied, if opened to them, the Principal shall assign teachers to this duty provided that no teacher shall be assigned to conduct the detention hall more than fifty percent (c50%) Such payment of the time. The Principal shall make the final determination among applicants for Article 9:7 a. and b. will be given if an elementary teacher is requested to move from one room to another, or if any teacher is requested to move from one building to anotherthe detention hall position.

B. Schedule shall not be changed without good and sufficient reason.

Teachers who may be required to use their own automobiles in the performance of their duties duties, and teachers who are assigned to more than one school per day shall be reimbursed for all such travel at the current maximum available rate under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) before it must be reported as income for all driving done between the arrival at the first location at the beginning of their workday, provided however, that if the distance from the teacher’s home to his/her first location or from the teacher’s last location to his/her home is greater than the distance between the teacher’s home and his/her base school, s/he shall be reimbursed for the difference at the maximum allowable IRS rate per mile.
9:4 Teachers E. If a teacher gives up a preparation period in order to cover a class for a teacher who desire a change is absent, s/he will receive one credit (chit) for each such service. This will include giving credit to teachers covering for coaches who must leave school early in grade and/or subject or who desire to transfer to another building may file a written statement of such desire with the Superintendent not later than March 1. Such statement shall include the grade and/or subject to which the teacher desires order to be assigned at an athletic event or related activity. At the end of the first semester and the school or schools to which transfer is desiredend of the second semester, in order of preference.
