Teaching Responsibilities. 1. The basic academic year teaching load for full-time faculty shall be twenty-four (24) teaching credit hours. All overload for full-time faculty shall be voluntary and overload rates shall be paid for all voluntary teaching assignments beyond twenty-four (24) teaching credit hours. No full-time faculty member may be assigned more than fifteen (15) teaching credit hours per semester within load. The teaching load for part-time faculty shall be a minimum of one half the teaching load for full-time faculty. a. The teaching assignment of a faculty member shall not require more than three (3) different course preparations in any semester, except where it can be demonstrated that the course offerings and class sections in a department cannot reasonably be scheduled on this basis, or where a faculty member's schedule includes one or more two (2)-student-credit-hour courses. Under such circumstances one additional course preparation may be assigned. b. It is recognized that one-student-credit-hour courses and activities such as, but not limited to, supervision of or instruction in independent study, internships, practice teaching, studio or physical activity programs do not lend themselves to computation of numbers of preparations under Subparagraph (a) above. However, it is recognized that every effort will be made when assigning such activities to arrive at an overall assignment of responsibilities which substantially and equitably equates to the model set forth in Subparagraph (a). Disputes concerning this subparagraph may be submitted to binding arbitration pursuant to Article VII. In the event that a violation is found, the remedy shall be the award of a payment equal to one overload credit for each additional preparation found to have been improperly imposed. 3. Overload compensation shall be established at the following minimum rates per teaching credit hour:

Teaching Responsibilities. All faculty are expected to be current in their field or discipline and maintain methods of professional practice or performance. Each faculty member is responsible for meeting all scheduled classes. Each faculty member is also responsible for planning, organizing and informing students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales. Faculty are required to provide textbook and other course material adoption information to the EWU bookstore on the timeline established by the bookstore under the authority of RCW 28B.10.590. Faculty are responsible for scheduling and attending office hours to meet the needs of students as identified in department plans. They are also responsible for turning in grades according to the deadline established by the registrar’s office. Tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to advise students who are declared majors in their department on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities in their disciplines.

Teaching Responsibilities. Teachers in Grades K-5 will receive notification of their teaching assignment on or about June 15. The teaching assignment is defined as consisting of tentative class lists and achievement levels in reading, spelling and math. Teachers will be responsible for reporting levels of achievement to their principal on or about June 1, a date to be determined by the principal. Teachers of Grades 6-12 will receive written notification of their tentative teaching assignment on or before June 30. Teaching assignment is defined as courses to be taught and approximate student enrollment within these courses. Teachers will be informed as soon as feasible of any changes in this notification. Supervisory assignments and co-curricular assignments are exempted from this notification. If a teacher’s position is to be eliminated, he will be notified in writing at the earliest possible time and preferably by May 1. However, it is recognized that this may not always be possible; particularly, at the secondary level where staffing patterns depend on scheduling which is usually not completed until later in the school year. 1. Program Support: The Association agrees to facilitate the implementation of a Distance Video Instruction Program and further agrees to cooperate and facilitate the District’s effort wherever and whenever practical.

Teaching Responsibilities. Faculty members are obligated to develop and maintain their scholarly competence and effectiveness as teachers, and perform the teaching duties assigned to them. Faculty members' teaching responsibilities include, but need not be limited to, the following: 1. to prepare and to present courses which reflect the current state of knowledge and the course description in the University Calendar; 2. to adhere to the Academic Council's policy on Course Management; 3. to be available for student consultations, including the posting and observance of reasonable office hours (a minimum of one appropriately scheduled hour per week for every three academic course hours assigned); 4. to meet at scheduled times with lecture, tutorial, seminar, studio and laboratory groups; and to obtain advanced approval from the Chair/Director for any deviation from their teaching schedules or courses of studies; 5. to be responsible for the preparation, supervision, coordination and grading of all course assignments, tests and examinations; 6. to submit final grades as required by the University; 7. to serve as academic advisors in the preparation and defense of theses or projects; 8. to undertake special assignments; and, 9. to supervise the work of Teaching/Academic Assistants assigned to them.
