Common use of Teaching, Scholarship and Research Clause in Contracts

Teaching, Scholarship and Research. 16.2.1 In order to assist Members with teaching duties, and in recognition of their scholarship, research and creative activities, the University agrees that: (a) Members shall have library privileges on the same terms as full-time faculty; (b) Members shall have access to computer(s) for the use of academic staff. These computers shall be equipped with word-processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, access to printing, e-mail, the University’s learning management system, the University’s internal networks as required, and Internet services; and such further facilities as reasonably required for the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities; (c) it shall provide support for professional development through a professional expense reimbursement under 28.7; (d) there shall be funds available to provide financial support for Members’ research activities under 28.8 and 28.9; (e) the University Research Office shall assist Members in making applications to external granting agencies; (f) Members’ library privileges shall be for the academic year, September 1 to August 31. Upon receipt of the signed letter of appointment under 13.7.4, the University shall renew and/or extend the library privileges of Members already employed or previously employed by the University. For Members not previously employed by the University, temporary library privileges shall be granted on the request of the Member until such time as the Member’s employment status has been processed and regular access to library services has been made available. (g) Members’ Laurier designated e-mail privileges shall be retained for a period of 36 months following the end of the Member's last appointment. For Members not previously employed by the University, temporary e-mail privileges shall be granted on the request of the Member until such time as the Member’s employment status has been processed and regular access to e-mail services has been made available.
