Unpaid Leave of Absence Exceeding Maximum Time Period. Personal unpaid leave in excess of six weeks and unpaid medical leave in excess of six months shall be granted only upon the recommendation of the employee's manager and with the approval of Human Resources and Development Management. The decision of Human Resources and Development Management shall be based upon the special circumstances of the case, such as doctor's recommendations when considering medical leave. Particularly in the case of job-related illness or injury, the length of approved leave shall be carefully considered in the light of the doctor's recommendations. Refer to the Disability Case Management Procedure HR-6 for more details. Employment longevity, the employee's performance record, and the mutual benefit to the Port and the employee shall receive appropriate consideration when reviewing personal leave without pay requests.
