Unpaid Leave of Absence - Family Illness. The Board shall grant a leave of absence without pay for a period not to exceed one (1) year to an employee for the sole purpose of caring for a sick member of the immediate family of that employee and additional leave may be granted at the sole discretion of the Board and for good cause shown. Provided, however, that no leave of absence shall be granted as herein contemplate unless the employee requesting said leave of absence shall first submit to the Board written medical certification from the attending or treating physician which certifies both the illness of the· immediate family member and the medical necessity for the rendering of home care by the employee.
