Common use of Working in a Higher Classification Clause in Contracts

Working in a Higher Classification. When an employee is temporarily assigned to perform duties by the City which are not contemplated within the scope or function of the employee’s own classification, and are the duties of an established City classification with a higher maximum rate of pay than that of the employee’s regular assigned pay grade, the employee will be paid an acting pay differential of $1 per hour, in addition to their regular base hourly rate of pay, for all hours actually worked in the acting capacity. This temporary assignment period and associated acting pay differential shall not exceed six months. The acting pay differential will not be applied to the use of paid time-off benefits or any other type of leave during the acting period.
