Based on an abstract description of a production process the approach delivers the capability to predict the behavior of systems and how these systems will behave due to the change of parameters. Target of the approach is for example to identify optimal process parameters. Examples for such application that were addressed by STU in the past are: • Shape Casting • Continuous casting • Induction heating • Plastic extrusion • Groundwater remediation The framework of STU called the “distributed parameter system blockset” is currently implemented in MATLAB & Simulink. STU has developed capabilities to encapsulate process modelling in this approach like a link to ProCAST for shape casting and continuous casting.
