Academic Staff Member definition

Academic Staff Member means an individual who is engaged to work for the University and is identified as an academic staff member under Article 1 of the applicable Collective Agreement.

Academic Staff Member means a person employed in a teaching position or a non-teaching academic position. The term includes academic staff members (ASM), senior academic staff members (SASM) and principal academic staff members (PASM). Terms such as Tutor and Lecturer are generic terms which also refer to academic staff members.

Academic Staff Member means a person who is employed by the board of governors as a teacher, counsellor or librarian; (“membre du corps enseignant”)

• They are in their first full year of employment as an Academic Staff Member at Athabasca University.

• An Academic Staff Member seeking promotion to the rank of Associate Professor or above shall provide the appropriate Executive Officer with the name of one external referee at a level equal to or superior to the rank being sought, in the same discipline or profession, together with any supporting documentation the Staff Member wishes to have considered by the referees.

• In such cases, the patent for any work or invention that is produced by a Sessional Academic Staff Member is vested solely in the member.

• An Academic Staff Member shall, normally, provide the supervisor twelve (12) months written notice to take early retirement.

• After having filled a term position for five consecutive years, a Term Academic Staff Member shall be eligible for such leave.

Academic Staff Member means a Staff Member designated as such by the Board in the terms of the Staff Member’s appointment, and who is therefore subject to those sections of this Agreement that apply only to Academic Staff Members (A). For Academic Co-ordinators, exceptions are noted in the relevant sections.
