Injury or illness definition

Injury or illness means either a physical injury or illness or a psychological injury or illness. A psychological injury or illness need not be accompanied by physical injury or illness.
Injury or illness means an abnormal condition or disorder.
Injury or illness means any damage to the body, as deemed appropriate by the directing or supervising physician.

  • Supplies or equipment not Medically Necessary for the treatment of an Injury or illness.

  • Injury or illness as certified by a physician (or medical staff) approved by U.S. Paralympics.

  • Injury or illness as certified by a physician (or medical staff) approved by USA Swimming.

  • Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Exclusion: The Policy does not apply to, have no liability hereunder to the Insured in respect of personal injury, Bodily Injury or illness of a person, loss or damage to property or advertising liability arising out of exposure to any electric, magnetic and/or electromagnetic field of any frequency, whether the same be caused or allegedly caused by the Insured’s power lines or otherwise.

  • Serious injury or illness means an Injury or Illness incurred in the line of duty that may render the member of the Armed Forces medically unfit to perform his or her military duties.

  • Catastrophic injury or illness means a life-threatening injury or illness of an employee or a member of an employee's immediate family that totally incapacitates the employee from work, as verified by a licensed physician, and forces the employee to exhaust all leave time earned by that employee, resulting in the loss of compensation from the state for the employee. Conditions that are short-term in nature, including, but not limited to, common illnesses such as influenza and the measles, and common injuries, are not catastrophic. Chronic illnesses or injuries, such as cancer or major surgery, that result in intermittent absences from work and that are long-term in nature and require long recuperation periods may be considered catastrophic.

  • Injury means accidental physical bodily harm excluding illness or disease solely and directly caused by external, violent and visible and evident means which is verified and certified by a Medical Practitioner.

  • Illness means a sickness or a disease or pathological condition leading to the impairment of normal physiological function which manifests itself during the Policy Period and requires medical treatment.

  • Catastrophic illness or “injury” means an illness or injury that is expected to incapacitate the employee for an extended period of time, or that incapacitates a member of the employee’s family which incapacity requires the employee to take time off from work for an extended period of time to care for that family member, and taking extended time off work creates a financial hardship for the employee because he or she has exhausted all of his or her sick leave and other paid time off.

  • Serious illness means an accident, injury, illness, disease, or physical or mental condition that: poses imminent danger of death; requires inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical facility; or requires continuing in-home care under the direction of a physician or health care provider. Related current definitions are summarized in (f) below.

  • Bodily injury means bodily injury, sickness or disease sustained by a person, including death resulting from any of these at any time.

  • Conviction of fraud or any other felony means any conviction for fraud or a felony in violation of state or Federal criminal statutes, whether entered on a verdict or plea, including a plea of nolo contendere, for which sentence has been imposed.

  • Violent felony means the same as that term is defined in Section 76-3-203.5.

  • Serious bodily injury means bodily injury which involves a substantial risk of death, extreme physical pain, protracted obvious disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of the function of a bodily member, organ or mental faculty.

  • Accident means a sudden, unforeseen and involuntary event caused by external, visible and violent means.

  • Sickness means an illness or disease diagnosed or treated by a Physician.

  • Accidental Bodily Injury means an Injury sustained as the result of an Accident and independently of all other causes by an outside traumatic event or due to exposure to the elements.

  • Violent criminal activity means any criminal activity that has as one of its elements the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force substantial enough to cause, or be reasonably likely to cause, serious bodily injury or property damage.

  • Felony means a violation of a penal law of this state for which the offender may be punished by imprisonment for more than 1 year or an offense expressly designated by law to be a felony.

  • Automobile Related Injury means bodily Injury sustained by a [Member] as a result of an accident:

  • Moral turpitude means conduct that is wrong in itself even if no statute were to prohibit the conduct; and

  • Emotional abuse means behavior that could harm a child's emotional development, such as threatening, intimidating, humiliating, demeaning, criticizing, rejecting, using profane language, or using inappropriate physical restraint.

  • Critical Illness means an illness, sickness or disease or corrective measure as specified in Section 6 of this policy document.
