Mine dewatering means removal of water from areas where surface mining or quarrying activities are being conducted. These mining activities include: a) the surface extraction of clay, bauxite, sand, gravel, soil, shale or other materials for commercial purposes; b) removing the materials over a coal seam, before recovering the coal; c) removing of stone from an open pit or quarry.
