Pedestrian island crossings requested in locations on Main Street but have been turned down for not enough room, road not wide enough & would force traffic to wear grooves in tarmac & resurfacing would be more frequent.
Pedestrian island refuges, cut throughs and pedestrian slowing devices such as at railway line fences do not allow for the turning circle of scooters, again forcing the user onto the road way.
It was also discussed that a crossing at a roundabout was not an appropriate placement and would put older persons at risk although the JMV residents had for years, requested a pedestrian crossing to get to the shop.Another asked why Council has removed the Pedestrian island, as that is used by many who walk up McDougall Street, towards NS CBD.
