Examples of Universal Credit in a sentence
Housing benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit If you are receiving Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits such as Universal Credit, or are on a low income, you may be entitled to housing benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit to pay part of your accommodation charges.
Normally you will not be able to get Housing Benefit or Universal Credit until you move in but your rent will still be due from the date your tenancy begins.
Direct payment If you claim housing benefit or receive the housing element of Universal Credit, you should ask for this to be paid directly to Transform.
This may for example be by ensuring that rent continues to be paid at the property through a continued Housing Benefit or Universal Credit ‘Housing Costs Element’ claim, by ensuring that rent payments continue to reach the landlord or managing agent of the property in the person's absence, and/or by ensuring that relevant people and organisations are given the necessary information to maximize the chance of the tenancy being retained.
You will be responsible for paying this, but if you are eligible for Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit (please see below) this will cover some or all of this charge.
