Accident or Illness. Interruption of the program of study or travel caused by serious accident or illness during a sabbatical leave shall not affect the amount of compensation to be paid the employee under the terms of the leave. The Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources must be notified by registered mail within ten (10) days after the accident or illness, and a doctor's statement verifying the accident or illness must be submitted.
Accident or Illness. Interruption of the leave by serious accident or life-threatening illness, evidence of which is required, shall not prejudice a unit member with regard to the fulfillment of the conditions under which the leave was granted, nor affect the amount of compensation to be paid each unit member under the terms of such leave. However, the appropriate President/Vice Chancellor must receive prompt notification of such accident or illness, which in general shall be by registered or certified letter mailed within ten (10) days of such accident or illness and the unit member's sick leave shall be charged from that time forward. It is the responsibility of the President to communicate such change in leave plans to the Vice Chancellor, Human Resources. The Vice Chancellor, Human Resources shall communicate said change in leave to the AFT as soon as practical. In case of death of the individual while on leave, his/her estate shall not be required to fulfill the conditions upon which the leave was granted, but payment of salary by the District shall cease upon such death.

A serious accident or illness which interrupts the program of study, travel, or other approved purposes upon which a sabbatical leave has been granted, shall not jeopardize the fulfillment of such sabbatical nor affect the amount of compensation to be paid such Faculty Member under the terms of such sabbatical leave, provided evidence of such accident or illness satisfactory to the District is furnished by a registered letter mailed within fifteen (15) days after the accident or illness.

If an accident or serious illness occurs during a paid leave, thus interrupting the program of study or travel, the absence shall be considered as an absence due to illness, provided the Superintendent has been promptly notified of such accident or illness. Notification shall be made by registers, letter, mailed within 10 days of the accident or awareness of the illness. A medical report, by a practicing physician acceptable to the District, must be filed with the Superintendent with, or immediately following, the notification of an accident or illness. The District reserves the right to request additional information before classifying the accident or illness as coming under the terms of the District’s absence due to illness policy.

Accident or Illness. Interruption of the sabbatical leave because of serious accident or illness will not be considered failure to fulfill the conditions under which the leave is granted. In the event of serious accident or illness, the Faculty Member will continue to receive compensation as provided in Article XIV.
Accident or Illness. Interruption of the retraining leave because of serious accident or illness will not be considered failure to fulfill the conditions under which the leave is granted. In the event of serious accident or illness, the Faculty Member will continue to rece ive compensation as provided in Article XIV.
Accident or Illness. 43 44 Interruption of the program of study or research caused by serious accident or 45 illness during a sabbatical leave, evidence of which is satisfactory, shall not 46 prejudice a bargaining unit member with regards to the fulfillment of the conditions 47 regarding study or research on which such leave was granted nor shall it affect the 48 amount of compensation to be paid the bargaining unit member under the terms of 49 the sabbatical leave, provided, however, that the Superintendent/President has been 50 promptly notified of the accident or illness. Notice shall be by registered letter 51 mailed within fifteen (15) days of the accident or illness. Any interruption due to 52 illness beyond thirty (30) days during the one-semester leave, or sixty (60) days 53 during the year leave, however, may result in the termination of the sabbatical leave 1 at the discretion of the Board, if the conditions upon which the leave was granted are 2 unlikely to be met.
Accident or Illness. 1. Interruption of the program of study or travel caused by serious injury or illness during a Sabbatical Leave shall not be considered failure to fulfill the conditions of study or travel upon which such leave was granted nor shall such interruption affect the compensation to be paid such unit member under the terms of the leave agreement, provided:
a. Notification as soon as practicable of injury or illness during Sabbatical Leave is given to the Superintendent by means of registered or certified letter; and
b. Written evidence verifying the interruption of the program of travel or study due to serious injury or illness is filed with the Human Resources Office.
c. A Sabbatical Leave cannot be changed to an Illness Leave before the expiration date of the Sabbatical Leave. The leave shall change to a personal leave without pay.
2. In the event of interruption of the program, the unit member may reapply for an extension to be completed during the following year.
