ACTING TEMPORARY PAY. Any classified employee who has been confirmed to employee's position may be temporarily assigned to serve in an acting capacity in a position allocated to a higher pay range than that in which the employee is employed so long as the employee is certified in the higher position. If an employee is temporarily assigned the duty of such position, employee shall, for each day thereafter so assigned be termed an "Acting Temporary" employee.
ACTING TEMPORARY PAY. Any classified employee who has been confirmed to a position by the Civil Service Commission may be temporarily assigned to serve in an acting capacity in a position allocated to a higher pay range than that in which currently employed. If an employee is temporarily assigned the duties of such position for five (5) working days, consecutive or separate, during their career, employee shall for each day thereafter so assigned be termed an "Acting Temporary" employee. Beginning with the sixth (6th) day of such work assignment, the "Acting Temporary" employee shall receive compensation ten percent (10%) greater than regular compensation, not to exceed the maximum of the range for the position assigned. Upon termination of the temporary assignment, the employee shall return to their original compensation.

Acting Pay during work hours shall be as follows: Battalion Chief to Division Chief Acting Employee’s Hourly Pay +5% Division Chief /Fire Marshal to Fire Chief less than 30 calendar days of acting time Acting Employee’s Hourly Pay +5% Division Chief /Fire Marshal to Fire Chief 30 calendar days or greater of acting time Acting Employee’s Hourly Pay +10% Battalion Chief to Fire Chief Acting Employee’s Hourly Pay +20%

A Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Operator, or Fire Captain who is certified in the higher position and has served in an "Acting Temporary" capacity for seven hundred twenty (720) hours, shall receive Step 4 pay for the higher-rated classification in which the employee is serving, beginning with the first hour after seven hundred twenty (720) hours worked in such higher-rated position.
4. A Fire Prevention Inspector I, II, or III who is qualified to serve in the higher position and has served in an "Acting Temporary" capacity for four hundred eighty (480) hours shall receive Step 4 pay for the higher rated classification in which the employee is serving, beginning with the first hour after four hundred eighty (480) hours worked in such higher-rated position. An Assistant Fire Marshal who is qualified to serve as a Fire Marshal and has served in an "Acting Temporary" capacity as such for four hundred eighty (480) hours shall receive the top step for the Fire Marshal position, beginning with the first hour after four hundred eighty (480) hours worked as a Fire Marshal.

3. Acting Fire Chief during non-work hours:
a. When acting as the Fire Chief, the Employee shall receive 5% of the acting Employee’s hourly pay for each non-worked hour not on duty (hourly pay x .05 = off duty acting rate per hour.) Only when Acting for the Fire Chief shall the employee receive the non-work hours acting pay.
b. Normal callback rules apply as outlined in Section 2, Article C. Overtime.
