BAT. The Contractor shall, depending on the requirements of the CTO, determine the presence/ absence of bats, estimate, distribution, abundance, and/or density in order to make inferences regarding populations within the study area. Bat detection data may need to be analyzed for seasonal movements including elevation patterns. Acceptable methods include but are not limited to visual and acoustic detections. For smaller bats that predominantly use echolocation to navigate, ultrasonic sound recording devices (example Anabat or SM2) may be used to detect bats. Locations of the bat detectors should be coordinated with the TOCOR and based on requirements of the CTO. Bat detection stations may be mapped on a topographic or aerial image of the landscape as permitted by the GIS requirement and set out in the CTO. The Contractor shall develop a standardized field data form to record data as required by the CTO or coordinated with the TOCOR prior to fieldwork. Depending on the requirements of the CTO, physical collection of bats may be required to collect data on sex, DNA, and life stage.
