- Benefits During Workers' Compensation Absences. Employees who are unable to work due to a work-related illness or injury and who are placed on a workers' compensation leave of absence shall continue to receive medical, life and dental insurance benefits until they have either been released for work with temporary restrictions or have reached maximum medical improvement and/or permanent restrictions whichever occurs sooner. Further, they shall continue to accrue sick leave and vacation benefits as if they were actively employed during the first thirty (30) calendar days of the leave. Employees shall be compensated for all work time lost on the day a work-related injury occurs where medical treatment is necessary. Moreover, such employees shall be compensated for up to one (1) hour of work time for each fitness for duty examination which occurs during the employee's absence. Such compensation shall not be paid, however, where the employee is drawing workers' compensation lost time benefits.
