Contributory Redundancy Schemes. The employer will contribute $55 per week to the BIRST Redundancy Scheme or other like schemes for all employees party to this Agreement. Payments for part time employees will be pro rata. When an employee has accumulated over $8,000 of redundancy entitlement, the employee, BIRST and the employer may agree to contribute up to 75% of the BIRST entitlement to an Australian Taxation Office approved superannuation fund. Alternatively, an employee may request to revert to paying 100% of BIRST entitlement contributions to the redundancy fund. Every employee is entitled to one such request per calendar year, and the employer will not unreasonably refuse. The employer is excluded from the obligation to make severance payments under this agreement if an employee’s benefits under BIRST are more than or equal to the benefits under this agreement. Where the BIRST scheme benefits are less, the employer will pay the difference between the BIRST and the agreement redundancy payments. The severance payment will be made either through BIRST or by the company, but not both.
