Crop data Sample Clauses

Crop data. A selection of the most important crops has been considered for the simulation in each country under study (by also considering the information provided by local project partners about their relative importance for local agriculture), as follows: wheat (winter cereal), maize (summer cereal), tomato (vegetable crop), potato (tuber crop), olive (tree crop). Specific crop parameters have been selected to run the model in each site. For the crop development model, values of base (Tb) and cut‐off (Tco) temperatures and GDD requirements for each developmental stage have been chosen, as listed in the following table (Xxxxxx et al., 1990; Xxxxxxx et al., 1992; Xxxxx et al., 2009). Tab. 5 – Selected values of Tb, Tco and GDD sum required for the simulation of wheat, maize, tomato and potato development. Crop Tb Tco GDD sum (°C) (initial) (development) (mid‐season) (late) Wheat 0 30 250 1250 1900 2500 Tomato 10 35 100 500 900 1200 Potato 6 27 150 550 1200 1600 Maize 8 30 100 650 1300 1600 The most suitable sowing/planting dates and the length of stages (if not computed with the GDD method) for each site have been selected according according to Xxxxx et al. (1998) and eventually adjusted according to information provided by local partners. Also the values of depletion fraction (p), initial and maximum rooting depth, have been selected according to those reported in Xxxxx et al. (1998). The selection of the appropriate evapotranspiration crop coefficients (Kc) for each crop has been done by considering FAO reference values (Xxxxx et al., 1998) and data provided by local partners. In Table 6 are reported the Kc values used for simulations. For the olive crop, Kc values have been determined as yet reported in paragraph 2.1.2.
