Distance Learning. Faculty teaching distance learning classes shall offer virtual office hours as per Article 13.B.7.
Distance Learning. Section 14.1. Distance Learning means instruction in which the instructor and student are separated by distance and interact through the assistance of communication technology.
Section 14.2. All teaching assignments requiring Distance Learning shall be voluntary on behalf of the faculty.
Distance Learning. Distance learning is a teaching modality whereby all or the majority of instruction and student interaction occurs via electronic media or equivalent mechanisms with the Faculty and students physically separated from each other. This includes courses that are fully online as well as Live online, hybrid, flipped, computer-based courses, and other alternate delivery methods.
Distance Learning. A. The use of Distance Learning shall not result in:
1. The reduction of the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) positions in the Avoca Teachers’ Association bargaining unit.
2. The reduction of staff of the Avoca Teachers’ Association bargaining unit from full-time to part-time.
B. Participation in the Distance Learning Program shall not be used, in any way, by the District to argue that the Association has waived any right or lost any exclusivity over it’s bargaining unit work.
C. Participating Bargaining Unit Members shall not be responsible or liable for the supervision and maintenance of discipline of students in the receiving school(s) when we are the sending site.
D. When Avoca is the receiving site, the District maintains the authority to assign non unit members to supervise students during the Distance Learning class.
E. The teaching of Distance Learning courses shall be strictly voluntary.
F. When Avoca is the receiving site, the district agrees to receive only those courses that enhance the existing curriculum and not to replace any course currently taught by a member of the association. However, if a teacher retires and the District is unable to hire a certified teacher, the association agrees to allow distance learning to provide curriculum continuity until a certified teacher is hired. This requires the district to conduct annual searches for a certified employee until the position is filled by a unit member.
G. When the set up operation, transmission, and disassembly of Distance Learning equipment exceeds that which is normally required in similar courses taught in the District, the District shall provide qualified technical personnel to assist the teacher.
H. The grading of Distance Learning Program student participants shall be the domain of the instructor. However, the instructor shall not be responsible for translating grades into a component district’s grading system.
I. Distance Learning class instruction is intended to be live and interactive. However, sessions may be taped if there is an interruption of transmissions due to emergency closing of the receiving schools (when Avoca is the sending school), equipment failure, and/or when there is a conflict at the receiving site when given prior knowledge of the conflict.
J. Videotape or any other reproduction of the teacher’s work performance in the Distance Learning Program may be used for teacher evaluation purposes only with the expressed written permission from the teacher and with a...
Distance Learning. Courses wherein the student and the faculty member are separated by time and/or space, generally delivered via some form of technology. Categories of distance learning course options include:
a. Interactive Television (I-TV) – A course delivered in real-time over two-way interactive television to one or more sites
b. Hybrid – An online course that includes scheduled classroom instruction (Scheduled classroom instruction shall not exceed fifty percent of the contact hours for the course.)
Distance Learning. The Administration will notify the Association before any existing Hartford School District learning program is replaced by distance learning or other off campus instruction or program. The Administration will meet with the Association upon request to discuss the impact, if any, that said change may have on the educational opportunities for students and the working conditions of teachers.
Distance Learning a. The administration agrees that it is not the intent of the District to replace full-time positions by subcontracting credit courses with outside contractors. Full-time faculty may teach distance learning courses within their normal full-time load or as an overload. Such assignments shall be mutually agreed on by the faculty member and the appropriate administrator.
Distance Learning. Distance learning facilitates access to education and provides a path to completion of academic and career objectives for college students and community members. Recognizing this, Faculty shall be expected to participate in teaching in alternate formats and master the skill of successfully teaching online. The College seeks to provide: (a) the community with programs which increase access to educational services; (b) students with intellectually stimulating courses which have a standard commensurate with those taught via successfully established delivery modalities; and (c) Faculty with opportunities to develop programs/courses and delivery systems. Last, the College and Faculty agree to work jointly to protect the integrity of the College’s programs and course offerings.
Distance Learning. No distance learning class shall duplicate any class offered during the regularly scheduled school day. Related issues involving distance learning will be monitored and addressed as the need arises.
Distance Learning. It is mutually recognized that "distance learning" technologies and programs can offer expanded educational opportunities to the District's students, as well as a shared desire to facilitate the realization of such opportunities. Therefore, the parties agree, as follows:
A. The District retains the right to offer courses through "distance learning" which are an enhancement of, or in addition to, courses currently provided by Bargaining Unit members;
B. During the term of the Agreement, no member of the Bargaining Unit will be terminated or laid off as a result of the District's utilization of "distance learning" or contracting out of these services.
